I’ve been working on a few things, just haven’t taken the time to post..here goes. Front axle is a V8-60 tube, spindles are round back with dropped steering arms, just sneaking under the lower hairpin link. Wishbone knuckles are 38, paired down on the miller to a nice thickness. The steps in the machining will be ground flat and blended. The spring will be behind the axle 2.5” and the perch 2” below stock height. I made the template today to have the batwing plates CNC Laser cut from 3/8” then it can all be welded together and finished.
Matt, that would require welding hairpin brackets to the axle itself and I always thought that the big knob sticking out in front of the axle was ugly. This is more Harry Miller than Norm Grabowski in appearance.
I was thinking more of welding the hairpin mounts to the bone ends. If slimmed down enough it might work out slick and give just the right amount of wheelbase change. I might have to try that. Hmmm?
Not red filler, it’s PPG-DP74 epoxy primer, applied to seal the metalwork. The last of my stash and no longer available. This go-round, I’ll be using Southern Polyurethanes red oxide epoxy primer.
Another long day spent, peeled back the paper and 1/2 of the initial 1.250 wide tape, hand sanded the tape ridge. I had it hooded, but it still blows in to the tape edge. Recleaned everything, retaped to the original that I had peeled back, blew it all off and tack clothed everything. Applied 3 good coats of 2K hi-build. Tinting the lacquer. The darker colour was the original Dearborn blue, by code. Dumbed it down to match the faded blue on the car now with hi-strength white.
I wanted to wait till the blend in to say so awesome but I just can’t. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
It is blended Matt, the colour is close but way to shiny, I’ll wet sand with 1500 to take care of that. Sent from my iPad using H.A.M.B.
Thanks Brent, unfortunately my Tig welder calf’d so it’s sidelined until we can leave the house safely.
Wet sanded to get the gloss off and feathered into the old. Match isn’t perfect but good enough for this jalopy. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Hey, I just spent a good portion of the afternoon getting the shine off it. I think it will get the linseed oil treatment and done.
