Well, I got another project and I’m going to do the bootlegger sleeper that I had been thinking about.

I can't believe how nice the interior is. I liked the all vinyl interiors Ford used in the early 60's (I had a 63 Fairlane with a similar interior)

  5. Interior is sharp, looks like a fun project. Those cars always ran great.

It runs and goes, doesn't stop, so brakes is where I am going to concentrate first. I plan on freshening up the suspension as well while I'm in there. It is a two barrel 352 but I already have a vintage Edelbrock F427 intake and a 600 cfm Holley 4160. It will get dual exhaust and I am on the lookout for full length headers that do not require a kidney to be given over. Also in the future a limited slip differential. I'm going to CLR the body and see just how bad the paint is, I may well repaint, we'll see, it isn't a priority right now. I want disc brakes as well, there is a thread in here about doing that with a mish-mash of Ford intermediate and full size parts but if the price for all that is close I'll just buy the Willwood kit. I'm on the hunt for a 390, or should the gods smile upon me, a 428. For wheels I'm thinking 15" steel wheels and poverty caps on lower profile performance blackwalls.

For the suspension, I want to look into putting big sway bars front an back, performance shocks, perhaps new springs. I'm thinking for the front bench of sending it to an upholstery shop and having the rips repaired and re-dye the seats and door cards. As for the bootlegging part, I have to build my still first... ;)

As a shiner car, it would be really cool to convert it to a 4 speed.

63 Fords had what they called "Cushion Link Suspension". If I remember right, it allowed the leading lower control arm pivot to move back and forth going over bumps. It made for a smooth ride, but a bit wishy-washy steering. Many years ago there was an aftermarket brace available to tie the left and right pivot together.

I understand about sleepers. I have a '62 Dodge Lancer 4dr with a healthy 340 and pretty loud exhaust. I can raise all kinds of havoc and the cops never look at it! Couldn't have been that old Granny car!
