I used to deliver propane to farms. This meant when farmers heard I was into old cars, they often gave me a tour of their stashes, and I drug a couple home over the years. This farmer collected every Ford model from 1936 I believe it was. Along the way, he bought up many other years and models in the 60's and 70's. He had farm trucks, a post office square delivery truck from the 60's, a fire engine, woodies, Phaetons, 50's through 70's four doors, etc. After the elderly farmer passed away (whom I never met), his heir and also daughter, with her husband, gave me a tour. That's when I saw the rag top far back in a tree line all alone. I also found the two parts cars. I asked him at that time (around 2 years ago) if he wanted to sell. He said he wanted all the cars gone, but never gave me a price. A couple months ago, I end up buying the '49 Coupe that came from the same farm originally. I asked the couple if they had the title for it, because it came with none. They said they did, and while picking it up, I asked about the other Shoebox models. This time, he gave me a cheap price for the rag top, and two 4 door parts cars. I sold the Coupe to build the rag top I really always wanted, and the rest is history! So even though I knew it had a lot of rust, and hasn't been on the road since '71, I have the car I lusted to save for a couple years FINALLY! It was born as Hawthorne Green with dark brown guts. I even found the last registration inside. Plans call for a mild custom with the 4 doors giving their lives to save the convertible.
I really like 50's convertibles, and a shoebox Ford would be very high up the list of those. I'm glad you were able to save them all, and even if the sedans get parted out, that's a much better fate than getting scrapped or just rusting away to nothing. Hopefully the good parts that you don't use for the convertible can be sold and used for someone else's project. I will say, I'd be tempted to put the '49 front clip on the convertible, I've always liked the integrated parking lights on the grille bar.
Good on the save @29StudeDude and yeah x2 on the pic it's a Gem...post that in the Artsy Car Pic Thread and Art Show...
My weakness is Shoebox Fords...That pic of all three of them staring at me was totally awesome. Thanks and great story.
