Great project! Just a thought if you run into problems chroming the plastic- is there anyone in your area that does sintered metal printing? I have watched a couple of vids and it looks very promising- congrats by the way the waterfall looks great!

I have high hopes for the chromer I have found that says they can plate this. I have looked at the metal 3D printing. That is an awesome technology and I hope that just like plastic 3d printing over time it gets cheaper and the cost of the printers comes down where home hobbyist can start playing with it.

Thanks! I know that the Ring Brothers use this technology in their builds. I just hope to see more guys use it in the future.

Thanks! I wish I would have thought of the test strips earlier but live and learn I guess.

I recently discovered this video and thought I would share on this thread of my 3D printed waterfall to show where this 3D printing technology is heading.

In the below video the engine builder 3D printed an aluminum intake manifold for an engine he is building to go 1000+ hp. Take a look.

Started the finishing process tonight at my buddy Mike Meeker’s shop. Started by scuffing the waterfall with a red scotch brite pad. Next Mike is going to put it in a filler primer and then more sanding. Only picture I took from the evening was this one where we were comparing my 3D printed waterfall against his perfect waterfall.

Got this picture sent to me earlier today from my buddy Mike who is helping me finish this piece. He shot it with some filler primer to help fill in those layer lines that where a byproduct of the 3d printing method. In my opinion its looking less and less like a 3d printed part and more and more like a stamped piece now. I can't wait to get it over to the folks that are going to chrome it for me.

Went out to Mike’s tonight and sanded on the waterfall some more. Got it wet sanded down to 1200 grit sand paper. Tomorrow I’m going to pack it up and send it off for chrome plating.

I want to get this one back and 100% finished and permanently mounted in the car first. There is one gentleman that I am using to gauge how well this is going and yesterday he gave me a "wow" comment when he saw these pictures. If he or I are don't like the finished product I won't release anything until we're happy with it. So far we're both happy. It looks like I have you on my list as being interested in them.

I just finished my 3D model of a '36 waterfall. I need to compare this model with a real '36 waterfall. I am very fortunate in that my neighbor has a '36 Ford Convertible Sedan with a radio in it for me to compare to.

My plan at the moment is to release these in these variations:

    Both a '35 and '36 Waterfall:
    • With and without window crankhole
    • With and without v8 emblem on ashtray
    • Radio Version - Eventually I would like to make one with a fake 35/36 radio in it.
    • Custom (either a custom emboss in the ashtray or variant there of. Imagination is the only thing that can limit a person can customize these)

I got my 3D Printed Waterfall back from chrome and made an unboxing video so you could see my reaction to the finish. Take a look and let me know what you think.
