I was looking at the McGee roadster this weekend at the Chicago world of wheels and was wondering if anyone might have the info on how the hood is latched. We noticed a small hole on the drivers side hood side just below the hood top and about half way between the grill shell and cowl. Thought someone here may have some insight on how it's secured and the linkage used if that in fact is what the hole is for. It's difficult to see in this image but it's the only image I have of the hood side. Thanks
There is a latch inside , the hole allows access with an allen wrench to actuate the latch ( if I remember correctly ). That latch & hardware is all original, just the way Bob MaGee built it . I was very involved in the restoration when I worked for Pete Chapouris .
I was wondering about the same thing as I was studying the car at the Autorama. Thanks for clearing it up for me. ........Don.
Wow ! You ask a question on here that one would suspect no one would perhaps even know the answer too, and 8 minutes later the answer is provided by one of the restoration team. Probably took a couple of minutes to type the answer as well........
The “power” exhibited by HAMBERS is incredible, they(members) are virtuallyable to answer just about any question posed to them; NEVER underestimate the power of the HAMB!.
The Jay Leno episode is my favorite; great to hear the story behind the postage stamp, but even better is to see and hear the car being driven!
Obviously they didn't have the iconic McGee Roadster for the stamp release ceremony at York, Pa. in 2014 so they just used any old Red Deuce Hi-Boy Roadster that was available.
I was able to get this photo of the interior without getting too close to the car last weekend. This car and the detailed work that was done to it is really a testament to the craftsmen that restored it.
Thanks Ken I am doing a leather interior in my roadster and trying to figure how he rolled leather or vinyl around the back surround and still used the top mounting hardware
