Any recommendation for the special goo to seal up my torus coupling around the crankshaft? I've heard everything from rubber cement to Gasgacinch to a guy who will sell me his magic bottle and bolts (I dont need) for an amazingly high price. I'd like to only do this job once. Thanks!
Did you open the torus and change the O rings? That is a cheap and important repair for an old slant pan.
There used to be a "special" sealant that was used with the old cast iron, single/dual range, single coupling, Hydra-Matics; and it's no longer available, anywhere. I think as long as whatever you use, does't harden completely, you should be fine. Use it on the crankshaft surfaces, and on the bolt threads; just don't go overboard, and clean off any excess. And, I'm sure you already know, these transmissions used a pilot bushing, similar to manual transmissions used. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.
I have Pliobond 30 in my notes that states it is a good sealant for this. I haven't used it, so can't confirm it's the best to use.
Yes Pliobond 30 is the stuff; don't know if it's still available. I used Aviation Permatex on the last two Hydro's I rebuilt.
