just fired my rebuilt 8ba ...i had to gravity feed the gas...i have no movement on the push rod to pump ..new isky 77as if there is no lobe on the cam.... any ideas ?

yes i have two motors with the correct rods ...i can hold the rod while i turn the motor ..there is no lift
I understand completely. There might be a possibility of a bad cam with no fuel pump eccentric,,,,I have never heard of that though . So,,,you are saying you can physically hold the pump rod and there is not any lift at all ? It must be a bad camshaft I guess,,,,,I have read where some have had quality issues with Isky lately. I think the issue then was the press on gears for the oil pump drive . Tommy
yes i can hold the rush rod i get nothing...i guess its better than a valve lobe ! ....i can run a electric pump ...better than changing the cam . still SUCKS !!
Good possibility that whoever installed rear cam bearing went too far aft. Pushrod will not contact cam.
thanks' it sounds like your on to somthing...if i pull the trans and flywheel will the back cover get me there to press the bearing in ?
Yes. Look down the pushrod guide and see if you see the edge of the bearing. It shouldn’t stick out any more than the guide hole Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.

Your stretching my ability on this one. I am unsure that you would have clearance to access the bearing with the oil pump gear there.
just went out to the garage ... looked down the hole .the bearing is pressed in to deep. about a 10th of an inch overhang ..thats how far it has to go forward ... if i pull the trans and flywheel can i remove the gear can i press the cam bearing forward?
Man,,I never thought of that. But,,,I don’t see how you will be able to get to the bearing. After you remove all the back side,,,and remove the drive gear for the oil pump,,,,the rear cam journal will still be in the way . If you had an old bearing,,,you might could use it to drive around the cam . But,,,would you risk damaging the new bearing by doing this. Could you have a piece of pipe turned down to fit around the journal ? Is there any way you could fudge the rod past the bearing opening ? You say a tenth of an inch,,,the bearing holes are very large,,,,would it give you enough room to force the rod past the opening ? Man I really feel for you,,,,,there doesn’t seem to be a good way around it short of pulling the cam and lifters,,,valves. Tommy
Hey,,,what about taking the rod and spinning it down a few thousandths ? Only at the very bottom where it goes through the bearing ? It would still give enough diameter to work ,,and still be durable and not wear bad . What do you think,,,about an inch or so at the bottom,,,1.25 maybe ? Tommy
i though about massaging. ha ha ! a tapered punch down there. or i have an extra rod to sacrafice .. the overhang is minimal and the bearing is soft ....or the dreaded electric pump!!
Why don’t you try to tap your spare rod by it and see how close it is,,,it might slip right by,,,you never know until you try . Tommy

update ...i ground an extra push rod and worked it in circles and up and down..it removed enough bearing material to fit the stock rod in... it was not much just enough to stop the rod from hitting the lobe..up and running with the stock push rod ...just had to Tickle and massage the bearing a bit ! thanks HAMB and Ford Barn for all your advice...i really thought i had a new cam with no fuel pump lobe !!!
read above ^^^^^^its running! it was the cam bearing blocking the hole just enough to stop the rod from hitting the lobe ...hope the helps the next guy
