Doug Nash 4+1 in my coupe and BW T170 3 speed OD for my 41 p/u. 1st gear is a little short with the 4+1 and a 3.23 rear. They were designed for Camaros with 3.08 rears and Mustangs with 3.00 rears.

1937 LaSalle with a Borg Warner R10 overdrive in my 1929 AV8 roadster. I have not had a chance to road test this yet, but hope to have it ready for summer.

  7. The A/T vehicles I have came that way (either factory or another person built it), the '36 is a A/T but put on the back burner and might change.

I have a few T5 cars in the works (both Hillmans and the '28), the '56 panel is a 3psd o/d stocker and the '47 is stock but will be a 3.03...still on the column.

Just put a Tremec tko behind mine. Using a Ram clutch & hydraulic throwout bearing. All seems to be working ok on my hi tech stand. 20200220_120326.jpg

I guess I have the oddball setup. I have an O/D three speed from a 76 AMC Pacer in my deuce roadster, behind a 354 hemi. The transmission is a Ford full syncro 3 speed top loader and the overdrive is a Laycock De Normanville unit ( Gearvendors nowadays). AMC used that combination for 75, 76, and 77, Gremlins, Hornets, and Pacers. I used a Wilcap adapter for hemi to Ford trans and have a rocker switch on the dash to engage the overdrive. I put a Jeep T 150 top cover on it and it comes through the floor less than an inch from where the original deuce shifter did. The Trans and overdrive work perfectly together and my final drive is Ford 9" 3:70 with Trac Lok. All the parts are readily available except for the adapter from the Ford box to the Laycock o/d. Rare combination to find but great performance. A guy in the LA Roadsters had one in his deuce using the side shift and a 40 column. He drove it twice around the perimeter of the USA without any problems. I even made a bracket and bolted a 36 parking brake handle on the side of the trans. But, as I said it's a rare combination.

Do you have a manual transmission in your current ride? Yes. I have a T5 in my 40 Sedan behind a 427 SBF and an RTS behind my B motor in the roadster. I have a stock sideshift in my 47 and plan to use a stock sideshift in my 40 coupe, which is my next project. I come from the late HAMB era (1964) when the BM Hydros and Mopar Automatics were kicking ass but I hung in there with the manuals and I'm still there.

If you were planning to use a manual transmission in a future build which one would you use?
Real Hot Rods have three pedals. Next project is a 40 coupe with a side shift original. If I live long enough the following project will be a 30/31 Roadster with the 39 trans sitting in my storage area.

Guilty... A non-HAMB approved Modern Driveline T5 package with the forward shift, behind the flattie for my avatar project. It is geared 2.95, 1.94, 1.34, 1, with a .63 overdrive and a 3.80 rear. I just want to keep up with the traffic but am wondering if I will have to shift into 2nd before I get across the intersection, from a stop. I will find out soon enough.

I wouldn't run a close-ratio Muncie, unless you have the rear-axle ratio to support it. I ran an original numbers-correct M-22 for awhile in front of a 4.11 rear. That combination was just too hard on the clutch, even with that rear ratio. It might have been okay with mild street driving.

I pulled the transmission and replaced it with a new wide-ratio M-22 Muncie. Big improvement. I sold my original M-22 before I would have damaged it from the stress, to a guy who was looking for numbers-correct originality.

Like my tag line says... wouldn’t run anything but one in a Hot Rod. The Vette has its original M20 with 3:08’s, the 3W runs a 1961T10 with 4:11’s, and the ‘57 uses an M21 with 3:55’s. All with BIG letter Hurst Comp Plus shifters : 4CE5EFA2-D15A-4372-AD60-3FBDBAF55771.jpeg 83054F16-F30F-4A39-BC5A-74B731A612AB.jpeg 4670440B-C00C-4EF8-839A-C40696AD788C.jpeg

  28. G'day, I haven't decided for sure what transmission that I am going to use in the 59 Vette but have a few in mind. I am planning on running an alloy 427 small block if the money for the block comes through so it should have a bit of power. On one hand I have a new Richmond Gear 6 speed that a friend provided. I also have a fresh Turbo 475 that is set up for more power than I will ever put through it.

The Turbo 475 is quite a story itself. I bought it at the Pomona swap meet before I got sick. We met the seller at his transmission shop the next day and he had it all torn down and packaged in small boxes. We did not take the case, valve body, or converter. We were flying first class so had four suit cases. Could you imagine the faces on the TSA guys when they x-rayed those cases.

I am leaning towards the Richmond as I have had good luck with the 4+1 versions. I also have a couple of the 4+3 Corvette trannies handing around but they are not fresh. Also have the Turbo 350 we built for the drag car and didn't use. Yes, I am a hoarder and have more transmissions than I can ever deal with.
