So I recently acquired this 55 olds wheel and I cant for the life of me figure out how to mount the center piece on the wheel after I bolt the wheel to my GM column. I read on an Olds forum that there's like these clips on the sides that hold it on.. which sounds simple enough... but there's nothing there to retain it that way. Anyone have any ideas? *Pictures of wheel mocked the car are my wheel, and the picture of the wheel without the center section is a google image since I forgot to take a picture with the center off of it..* Sent from my SM-G950U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
If you were to take the wheel off, and take several pictures of your steering wheel and the center, from both sides, perhaps we could see what's missing?
Your missing the rubber ring, if you find the rest let me know. I’ll check my Olds factory repair manual in the morning for adjacent parts
Ok I wasn't aware that the center section of the center piece came apart like that (as seen in NoChop's first picture). I tried to get it apart, but I felt like I was going to break something so I stopped trying. It didn't seem like it wanted to come apart. I'll take some more pictures of it tonight when I get home from work.
I think the part we are missing is the horn contact. The trim piece is the honker. I wonder if all gm column parts are similar. I’m putting the rocket wheel in my avatar btw and am having the exact issue.
hmmm ok. I have a generic GM column from Ididit that I got with the car. and it fits the splines just fine
If you look close to the underside of the horn ring you will see two little spring tabs. I think that attaches to the horn contact. I may fab something. I’m probably going to use a quick release fixture on my column
