What is the difference, if any, between 32-34 Ford Truck Cabs?

32 have a separate firewall, 33 has an integral firewall, and 34 has integral firewall and an extra rib above the belt line in back.

  3. there are also other minor differences; and '32 dashboard is different than '33-34

There's lots of little differences, and many of them were running changes in mid year. Roof rib changed in 32, roof went from front corners welded to just screwed on, visor got a brace, mounting bolt pattern changed in the years. Probably others too, but a beginner will never be able to spot them.

OKay, gotta be something alchemy doesn't know.

How many threads on a '33 Ford PU door hinge? ;)

    Wait for it...:)

  6. even the 32 pickup dash is different than a 32 car. They look really close but a pickup is slightly wider.

32-34 big truck cabs have the gas tank in the cab. 32 Pickup is the same where 33/34 tanks were located in the back so they have a seat bottom frame.

Is the cab of the big trucks actually bigger, or were they all the same size?

Heavy truck cabs are the same size as standard pick up.

Here is an unmolested 34 Model BB heavy truck cab. Mounting holes line up with my 34 pickup frame.

  11. Front cab mounts are different on33-34 from the 32.A guy could make them work on a 32 frame with a little work.34 recieved a large rib across the back to stiffen the back.

What is needed to put a 32 cab on a 34 frame? Is it just the mounts that are different?

  14. There was a build done last year here where the owner mixed frames, and year of cab,and showed how he made new front cab mounts, and welded them on. May be someone recalls the thread,or you can Google search.

  15. The Confused '32-'34 Pickup built be Dave Doolin.

The firewall attachment had to be removed and lowered where it would sit on top of the frame, the lower part of the firewall on the side had to be filled in to match.

As has been said earlier the most noticeable exterior differences are the firewall which is attached on 33 and 34 cabs and the removable firewall on the '32.

    '32 firewall

But probably the most noticeable difference is the rear of a '34 cab, notice the extra wide bead.

The '32 & '33 has a double bead across the back of the cab.

As far as finished, if using a 33 or 34 cab on a '32 frame the ball look good. HRP

    Probably need ;
about 1" from the '32 hood/cowl edge back so the '32 firewall will bolt in stock...
    a '32 firewall...
a '32 firewall to cowl rear hood hinge bracket...
a '32 or '33-'36 car front hood hinge retainer...
subfloor boots / toe boards changed from '33-'34 to '32...
some have a small 2 hole bracket for the spare tire...right side...
    throttle pedal assembly, V8= short... 4 cyl. = long ... '32-'34 = small spoon... '35-'36 car and '35 - '39 trucks = bigger spoon... hope it helps...

Does the grill lean back more on a 34 then a 32? Dave's gold 32 pictured above shows the grill seam and the cowl seam as being parallel. This 34 appears to show the grill leaning back a bit. grill lean.jpg

  20. Yes, the 33 and 34 grille shell leans back a bit. Thats one reason I prefer them to a 32.

33 and 34 hoods interchange with each other. The grilles lean the same. The grilles and hood sides have different trim on them, but they bolt into place of the other.

The '34 grill shell has a stainless trim piece that runs between the bars & the actually shell. But, that's not part of the cab....duh.

IMG_0962.JPG This is a 34 truck grille. Both the heavy duty and pickup are the same. Yes they have a stainless trim held on with little spring clips. They also have a bullnose and a different rad cap than a 33. 32 car and truc rad cap is the same. 34 car and truck rad caps are different.

Just to clarify the statement by @dumprat-
It is the ‘32 radiator cap for the "Commercial" Cars and BB trucks that is the same. It’s round, has a low dome shaped top and a 3 1/2” diameter with a knurled edge. It's HTF and expensive.
Ford Pickup, Station Wagon and the Sedan Delivery were called Commercial Cars in Ford's marketing plan. Early production Station Wagons used the Commercial grille but later in the year they were built with Passenger grilles and the stainless headlamps. The Sedan Delivery, introduced late in the year, was only built with the Passenger grille and headlamps. BB Trucks were built on 131" and 157 1/2' wheelbase.
