I am super pumped ,. I have been looking for a shop truck/cruiser for awhile and this fell into my lap. A 1948 Ford F1, no rust through complete truck. With disc brakes, power steering, “rebuilt “ 289/ C4 tea sand firewall master cylinder set up. Clean clear title with matching vin. The plus is it has late 60’s Passenger GM 12 bolt posi rear . The smaller car width not a Chevelle. Put a deposit down and picked up the next day and owner came out and said I have something that might tickle you. Handed me a super nice gauge set ready to go.
Posts like this make me happy! Congrats on the truck, make sure you share the adventure of putting it together.
Thanks. No soft spots at all. Cab corners are solid ,solid, solid as well as floors. No dentsjust sand down , primeand paint. I have always loved those F1's. Inside floor/firewall and around windows still have nice paint under rubber .
Weird the red paint is not showing up around the front windshield. Yes Bandit Billy , sort of excited about doing a build up . The Tudor needs to come out of garage so this one can take over the available space. Better to take pics of the '27 and get it going down the road.
You said "late 60's 12 bolt" and "smaller car width, not a Chevelle", that leaves only Nova. If that is the 65-67 Nova 12 bolt you've struck gold.
Thanks all. Well , it is going to be a keeper and daily driver at least spring through fall, and needs to go across country a time or two to pick up the rest of my vintage parts collection , so even though I am a poor boy, she will get the good stuff and the dyi will be good therapy and exercise . Turn on some Waylon , Willy and boys and start making some dust .
It has a "rebuilt" 289 with a C4 transmission . Vintage finned Cal Custom valve covers . Old Edelbrock StreetMaster intake. It has orange valve springs on the heads. Not sure yet if that means anything.
A previous owner had a flip front end set up and the brackets are still on it . So , the options are there.
Thanks Danny. I was just happy having a clean clear title with it and then the 12 bolt posi was the icing on the cake along with being jacked about finding a cool vintage parts on it (the 12 bolt and the vintage 289 ). I was starting to think I was going to move away from the hamb cutoff to get a something to build. Whoooeee , so glad i did not have to .
Nice find, but you might have to get rid of the front clip. After all, this is the HAMB, and you know how they feel about IFS. It would be a shame to see this thread deleted by the 'traditional' police...
Just be like Sgt Schultz, "I see nothing!" Don't show it, don't talk about it, try to make pics that keep it hid.
Cool truck..! If that 12 bolt is an F or X body you could tell by the leaf spring saddles. X body saddles are perpendicular to the axle tube and F body saddles are slightly angled.. These axles should be 60.25” wide at the wheel mounting surfaces..
Biggest investment will be the glass/weather stripping, maybe the driveshaft Yeppers. Thanks . Did a little trimming as you said. Appreciated
Fortunately , my biggest investments will be elbow grease, glass/weather stripping, paint, maybe a driveshaft and changing to an electric wiper motor. The rest is already in the shop.
Actually Rust-oleum Gloss Cherry. I wanted to try it too see if it was a hot rod red that I would like .
I scored a deal on this SpeedAir air compressor Sunday . 80 gallon . The gentleman wanted a vertical compressor that would take up less room . Right place , right time I guess . So , now I have a big enough compressor to shoot paint I will get paint to match .
