The question at anytime has their been a aluminum 4 barrel intake mfg for the old Y block Ford type 239 to 312. Thank You..
I'm pretty sure that the 239 stuff isn't interchangeable. From what I can tell, this is the latest (and best) one going. It's the one the "big boys" use when they are racing. http://www.ford-y-block.com/perfpart.htm

Wiend(sp) used to make about any Y Block intake you could dream of. They were a good intake, at least that's how I remember 'em. Holley owns them now. They may still make them for Y Blocks. Jump over to their site and look around, if you don't find what you're looking for drop them a note. http://www.holley.com/ Oh and if I recall the 239 used a different intake, 272/292/312 were the same. Edit damn it I think that Krietz (sp) also made intakes for them, but good luck finding one.
Yes 239 was different. There were small and large port intakes for the 272,292,312. Either one will fit those motors, but as I said there are two different port sizes
The one I posted is Blue Thunder also, and appears to be cheaper new than on the Ebay listing. I might have overlooked something, though.
The Blue Thunder is mighty pricey and doesnt buy you much over a stock cast iron intake for general driving. The Edelbrock 256 dual quad intake shows up regularly on EPay and with a pair of WCFB's will run fine on a 292/312. This is the same intake that Ford had dealers install on 56-7 TBirds and a lot were also sold over the counter. Another setup for great looks and decent performance is the 3 carb Edelbrock 553 or 573. The 543 was made for the 239/256. The Offy versions are slugs. I just bought another 573 off EPay for $125.
John Mummfert RULES. Yeah, the factory 312 4-barrell intake Part #ECZ-9425-B is a fine intake. This is the unit used in '57. 286Merc, your K-Nowledge is amazing!
The old aluminum single quad intakes didn't make much more horsepower than the stock '57 intake, IMHO. It'd look cool, but don't expect much performance improvement. From what I've read however, it sounds like the Blue Thunder can make a pretty good increase in torque and horsepower on the dyno if the rest of the engine is done properly. Now as to whether this would translate into a noticable increase on the street remains to be seen. 286 Merc (whose got a whole bunch more experience than I do) seems to think not. Some actual drag strip times for this manifold might be interesting. As the intake/port/valve system is the largest limiting factor in this engine, anything you can do to improve breathing will help.

Some actual drag strip times for this manifold might be interesting. Im not knocking the Thunder, just doubt the expense of it and a top quality modern carb will be worth it for the street. Lots of guys are using them on the street and can feel the difference but they generally are high dollar cars. Tests have shown about a 30% flow increase over the 57-64 cast iron so it is a killer on the strip and I will be using one on the Altered. For the street a ~450-500 cfm Autolite off a 60's 289/302 and the cast iron intake is a painless way to go. If you have the big valve heads and a street cam then 550-575 works good. In any event clean up and smooth that intake as well as the head ports.

. You could powder coat the cast iron intake if you like this look. The thermostat housing is cast iron on this powder coated aluminum intake.

And here’s my Edelbrock 573 with 3 brand new Stromberg 97s that are now tuned and balanced. Runs great.

Not really...found it on E-bay about 4 years ago. Doesn't had Blue Thunder on it. It does have a Ford part number, I think the same as the 57 iron four barrel. I bought a 600 Summit carb for it. If I ever sell my 56 Vic I'll remove the dual quads first as they are worth more off especially with the NASCAR Purolator air cleaner.
