Cut up a couple bucket seat cushions and glued them together to form seat base. Soaked a piece of 1/8" plywood in water and clamped in place for seat back. I hope it retains shape when dry! I would sure like to get seat done before spring is here.

  6. Sat and started at my shitty chrome and pondered on how folks spend so much money on replating this stuff! I'm used to building a complete car for that much money! Get a 57 Chevy they said.... it'll be fun they said....

    From the BillyBob Shop log

February 20th 2020 When the engine was propped upright, I gained a little slack in the hoist chain. This allowed me to let out the remaining length of hoist chain, about twenty inches, which can't be done under tension. That twenty inches made the difference. I was able to re-lift the engine and put it down on its side as originally planned.

The clutch and flywheel have to come out thru the bottom access opening before the bellhousing can come off. These Jimmy and stovebolt engines have some of the bellhousing bolts behind the flywheel, a dubious engineering achievement in my humble opinion. We'll set that work aside for now to finish some of the other small tasks I have started. Beer of the day was Fulton Brewery's Proper Porter American Porter.

I dropped off this frame off restored 1951 Ford Victoria in North Phoenix that I transported from The Early Ford V-8 Ford Foundation Museum in Auburn, Indiana.

This is the second time I hauled this car - I brought it from Omaha, Nebraska to the museum last year for a feature show.

I am a member of The Early Ford V-8 Foundation Museum.

0217201823.jpg Made some progress on my cab. The windshield frame and front roof were rotted out.
The HAMB concensous was cut the roof off and replace with a donor but everything I found was too good to cut up.
I think it turned out ok.

  15. That museum is a treasure. My Dad, son, and I went there about 4 years ago and it was wonderful. I could easily spend another day there.

looks about like mine, i am a new tigger too. my unauthorized opinion is that brown stain on one, and the bubbles throughout are contamination from, not enough gas, too much stick out, or too much angle letting the gas escape. lets see if any pros agree.

    Looks too hot.
Turn your heat down and go slower feeding the puddle.
    Tigging is a slow process.

  23. Today I started on an inframe overhaul of a Detroit Diesel 6V-92 engine. This engine is installed in an old Pierce Cabover Fire Truck. These old Detroits are two stroke engines. The Detroit Diesel dealers in St.Louis will not work on these dinosaurs anymore. These engines are where the GMC blowers come from. This particular engine has a blower and a turbocharger. If you look closely, the picture of the piston at bottom dead center is uncovering the intake ports in the bottom of the cylinder. The valves in the cylinder head are exhaust only. All two stroke Detroits have blowers on them, a Detroit without a turbo is considered naturally aspirated. IMG_2783.JPG IMG_2785.JPG IMG_2784.JPG IMG_2781.JPG

  25. Last one I did was an 8V92 twin turbo with a road ranger behind it, it was in an old cf single axle. Detroit is my favorite engine, they make a sound like no other. Nice job.

    From the BillyBob Shop log.

February 21st 2020 Removed the rest of the odds and ends from the cab interior. The crotch cooler cowl vent assembly, the windshield hinges, kick panels below the doors, brake light switch and battery cut off switch. Two of the stovebolts (slotted screws) holding the passenger side kick panel were frozen. Tried several methods to loosen them but no joy. I'll grind them off over the weekend. Then we'll be ready to strip the chalky primer paint off this old boy.

The second photo will not be HAMB friendly but there is a style I like on just about anything as you will see. These were 3 months in the making and over holidays but worth it to me so far. My Visa was smoking after all recipes were in. 17C45F1F-77D8-4FA5-B270-D8B970AA72D8.jpeg C9080B3B-D0CA-4C7C-BC01-B306F3AF7B58.jpeg
