Looks good sporting the Super duty hood scoop.

 

believe it or not, it looks like it has a couple usable parts.. have a '58 Custom 300 in need of the rear quarter window stuff.

OK.........NOW I see!!! The 58 had 57 tail lights because the 58 lights would break if the tail gate was dropped!!
Never noticed and I'm an old dude!

But '58 station wagons had tailgates that dropped down also and they didn't break taillights.


Is there something I'm missing here?

That side trim is what was on my 57 Ranchwagon. That is a 57 as the 57 fenders have the ridge running the top, 58s had a divot down the top of the fender.

Having seen our share of 1957 Fords with the factory Paxton/McCullogh superchargers, that was a very hot street/strip set up. They usually popped up in factory stock classes and sometimes with more internal mods, ended up in the gas coupe and sedan classes. But, as mild or wild as the customizing was, it could have been just popping off a set of cool Dodge Lancer Hubcaps or Oldsmobile three prong spinners to go racing.

Hot street usage cars usually had some form of customizing, whether it was mild or wild. This Ranchero was just a fast stock appearing car that usually gave opponents the fits in the one on one races. My brother and I always thought the easiest way for more power (on the street and dragstrip) was to bolt on a Paxton/McCullogh supercharger on any car. Just ask any of Junior Thompson’s 41 Studebaker opponents in B/Gas.

The impressive thing with the Paxton McCullogh Supercharger is that distinct whine when the motor is “revved” up in the pits, street or neighborhood parking lot. In one of our usual Friday-Saturday night hang outs at the Bixby Knolls, drive-in restaurant parking lots, a black, 1957 Thunderbird came chugging into the lot and made everyone whip around to see what it was. There was a definite whine with the Thunderbird that we normally do not hear.


When originally reading the Drag News byline under the photo of the 57 Ranchero, one thing popped out fast. A 321 cubic inch blown 57 Ford engine. Wow, no wonder people thought it was fast and challenged the fact. It was a misprint and should have read 312 cubic inch rated 300 h.p.
