I often will ask the seller what that means before we get going on a negotiation. Usually the seller will stand there with a dumb look on his face. When the ad is internet related I still ask but I cannot see the dumb look but I know it is there.

Or it’s a Corvette, because the valve covers say so.

  4. Malapropisms said on purpose in a trendy way, like "I'll be out of pocket for a couple of days," meaning out of town, out of reach or unable to respond. I first noticed it 25 years ago, used frequently by business elites and politicians currying their favor. I realized it was code for being a member of the club.

My response most times I hear "that's awesome". No, the Grand Canyon is awesome!

The use of the response "Shutup" when hearing something hard to believe. Also, I haven't heard this in a long time but how about: "it's got a 3/4 race cam in it".

  7. Teens use the word ''extra'' to describe someone who is being a pain in the ass, or a situation out of the ordinary.
Example: ''Stinky couldn't go to the swap meet because his GF (girlfriend) was being extra and he took her handbag shopping instead.''

I’ve got a friend that uses the “F” word about every other word! Seems to be a common way of talking in some parts of the country! Don’t really like it and I always wondered what he said when he got really mad?

Kind of off topic, but my wife and I are friends with another couple originally from Alabama.
The wife was explaining to me how her husband, who is in the Coast Guard, was up all night dealing with a “speal” on Lake Michigan.
About a minute or two into the story I finally stopped to ask her “Sorry, but what is a speal?”
She replied “ You know, like an oil SPILL!”
    I couldn’t stop laughing

I second all of the irritants mentioned previously and submit; “sourced” as in, “we sourced the bushings from....” the magazine guys seemed to really embrace that one and look where it got ‘em.
I guess there will always be hip-speak that hits your ears like squealing disc brakes, the best we can do is just smile and hope it just fades quickly like most of it does.

Hey, using "eh" amongst fellow Canadians is fine; got to make hay while the sun shines... Though in some parts of England they use it too, I suppose to feel more like us.

It's the bomb. Or is that just a southern thing?

  16. Not just southern,,,

  17. How about this one.
Using the word “bands” to tell someone how much money something costs.
Example: You can get one of those for just a couple bands
Supposedly it comes from currency wrappers.

Dumbasses must not know a band from a wrapper or that there’s more than one denomination of currency wrapper. 90ADD0DD-8DB9-4763-96C9-50C6E27F628B.jpeg

  18. How about "Fantastic" , that was widely used and replaced by "Awesome" . A buddy sends me text messages with MEH , I asked if he was sick or something . ???

Oh jeez, there’s another one. Hella this and hella that. My daughter was stuck on that one a while back.
You’ll forgive me but I’m pretty sick of everyone “having your back”.
    Throw in “game changer” too.

  28. Ok, I hate this type of thread, but you sucked me in :)

"This is one of the only..."
    ????
the ONLY, or MORE than one???
    what a mentally confused talker.

"WALLA!" instead of the real word Voila, meaning "here is"

"just sayin'" what the hell does THAT mean?
Gibberish and nonsense is allowed because you were "just sayin'" ?

And I am so glad that "eclectic" finally faded away before I jumped off a bridge to make it stop..

I'll bet if the internet and forums like this had been around 40 or 50 years ago our parents and grandparents could have easily done a thread this long on the same topic.
