Right now my 37 has a 57 235 with a adapted 54 water pump and a 49 to 54 fan and it sits only 1/4 or so from the radiator so I would like to get a little more room when the 60 235 goes in with the same 54 adapted water pump. I think those era trucks have the shortest engine compartments so I found a 37 fan,put that 37 fan on the new 235 and the blades hit the balancer. Found out there was a water pump change in mid to late 37 and the pump got shorter and that pump size must have continued until 54 so it looks like I got a early 37 fan that will not work without a spacer, picked up a fan off a 46 to 48 car that was made with cuts to clear the balancer but the blades are wider and might put the fan where the existing fan is and no room to change a belt. So I need to see pics from those who have a 37 to 40? truck with a 216 or 235 of the fan you are using.
Here is how it is now and trying to avoid,if the belt breaks it will have to be towed home to repair. Can not get my finger between the fan and radiator and since I had a four core radiator made I might have to go back to a stock sized core..
It's been 20-years or so ago, but as I recall, when I installed a 235 in my '37 chevy coupe, I used the balancer & water pump for a 235 and had to press the pump pulley on a little further back to line up with the 235 crank pulley and used the thinner 235 fan belt. Pretty sure I used the stock '37 fan and it cleared the crank pulley, but was pretty close. I had just enoough clearance between fan & radiator to change the fan belt.
I wish I could find the fan it had when it had a 47 216,I do not remember it having any issues back then.
