I had the opportunity to make this panel for a local race team. They were very happy with the results!



Then since it is Valentines Day I went into metal rose production. I had a lot of fun creating these roses. Hobo’s Hot Rod Garage.

Hello,

What a better way to celebrate “RED” day than to see an iconic red roadster. Ever since seeing the red roadster on the cover of Hot Rod Magazine in 1957, we have always admired the cars from the Tony Nancy Shop. It was a well built 29 roadster with a Flathead motor. It was one of the few Flathead driven roadsters in the drag racing circles, with the advent of more SBC and Hemi motors arriving on the local scene.

Then, a few months later in 1960, the beautiful red roadster was again, on the cover of Hot Rod Magazine.

Despite the April 1960 date designation, we know it may have been photographed three-4 months earlier. Magazines have set up and production timelines.

As we developed a tremendous craving for drag racing, we usually went to Lions Dragstrip just a few miles away from our Westside of Long Beach house. But, in late 1959, we managed to get to Riverside Raceway, 65+ miles away for a one of the biggest drag races in those early historical days. We saw the best from all over the USA challenging the best from the West. It was a great day, despite the long distance drive, an all day drag racing day, and long trip home.

We were finally able to see the red roadster in the pits and racing. But this time, the roadster had an injected Buick. It was one roadster that stood out in the pits and on the dragstrip.

Sorry, there was a lot of confusion at the starting line area for photographers. The management decided that the photographers and film makers had to leave the area. Since there were no fences or barriers at the starting line, most of my starting line films were as close as you could get to the racers. That was the reason this film was shortened to the staging only shots. We were too close to the track and the race cars, so it was push and be shoved back to a safe distance.

So, if this red roadster does not do something for the enthusiast, then maybe this will, today:
