Interesting photo because none of the original 21 A/FX cars built by Dearborn steel tubing were Cyclone models. This must be a privateer racer, although it does look like it has fiberglass one piece front fenders and the Plaza Glas snorkel hood.

Had a Comet that was painted the same color with a black vinyl top. Just was wondering where this car was from. Sold it to a guy that lived in the New England States back in 1969 when I was transferred overseas.

  5. I believe this is a BFX, not AFX and the ones of those I have seen were Cyclones, like the red Cyanide comet

Good point, there are no class markings on it, also I see no sign of a roll bar, headers or deep oil pan.

This is Dale Anderson, a church pastor here in Roswell, NM back in the early 90's. On Sundays, he would officiate his church services, usually showing up at the strip around 12:30, get one quick pass in to figure out his tune img670 (2).jpg img671 (2).jpg img676 (2).jpg up & dial in, then be set for eliminations. He moved back east after a couple years, and ultimately succumbed to cancer. A great guy!

Heard a story about one of those McCoy Comets being stashed away in a barn some where in Cecil County. But the guy that told me is gone now. Haven't found anyone else that says the same. Gene.

Always loved the tear drop hood and higher front end stance. Looked mean, aggressive and fast just setting still.

Gotta start carrying my camera when I go out, saw a 64-5 in Athens the other night, would have fit in perfect here.

loveoftiki. Did you go to Motor City Dragway in 1969 ? I ran my 65 Comet convertible there almost every weekend. I ran M/S formula 2 . It was dark Green with a black top. I would love to have a picture of that car. My brother threw away all of my pictures and I don't have any. Thanks.

  16. Well...that would have been a little challenging...I was popped out into the world in July of 69....wish I could help though..there is a Detroit Dragway Facebook Page..maybe join that group.
