I am buying a 34 Ford pickup cab and bed this week but the owner does not know if the pickup bed is a 34 or a 35 or maybe even a 36. Is there a big difference in them? I will be building up a traditional hot rod out of the cab and parts. If the bed is not a 34 will I have a problem adapting it to the frame?
maybe check Westcott's frame specs... see if the frame kicks are the same... both have a 112" wheelbase... but the '35 and later had spring in front frontend and that may move the cab back in the prosses... shortening the area from the cab to the fender... I have a '33-'34 bed out back... will take what measurements you need ? ...
I have a 34 PU and the bed is in great shape. Let me know if you need pics or measurements. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
there is a noticeable difference in the beds. Mainly from the from the front on the bed to the are where the fender bolts on. The spacing is longer on a 35/36 bed vs a 33/34 bed. Also the curve of the bead is different on the rear arch for the fender as the fenders have different curves to them.
Yep, easiest way to see at a glance is a 33-34 will have a round arch for the fender, and the 35 and later will sweep out at the back.
I built a 34 Ford pick up and used a 35 bed . Like TABOO 56 said, there is a lot of difference in the 34 & 35 beds. I wanted a short bed so I shortened the front and rear to make the wheel base work out. The shorten rear ends over stock rear cross member. The bed is about 13 inches shorter total. The front and rear fenders and running board are 34's & are not altered. Worked out and I liked the look(chopped 2in And Bed is bobbed 13 in. Here is a picture
