60 Falcon with a 302

    So today we pushed and banged the wheel well out, and it rubbed a bit, but it was better. My grandpa decided that for a birthday gift, he's going to give me different things as I need them. Well, now I have air shocks. They improved the rubbing issue, but it's AMAZING the difference it made for driving. Tomorrow we're gonna hit the weatherstripping, mirrors,and other various things.

    Besides the air shocks and clearancing the wheel well, I got the weatherstripping in, correct thermostat, and side mirrors. It's amazing how much the shocks and weatherstripping changed the car. Made it so much smoother and quieter.

    Update. After driving it with the weatherstripping you can definitely hear the transmission whining in 2nd. The vibration that we thought was the tires is actually the transmission (we got them balanced). Might have found a toploader to drop in though, and I shouldn't have any issues after that... Hopefully. I'll be losing overdrive, but it'll make it allot better shifting from 2nd to 3rd.

    Got the subframes installed... But it won't shift out of first. Glad I had my grandpa looking out for me, else that'd happen when I was about an hour away. Found a guy selling a rebuild-able toploader core for 300$. Probably going to try and get that, rebuild it, and get that in.

    I found a toploader out of a 72 Fairlane for 300$. I'm going to have it checked out for cracks and major flaws before I buy, and have the innards checked before I put it in the car. Majorly, though, some research tells me they have the same tail housing length. What I do not know is if the shifter is in the same position, or if it is in a useable position for my car. The trans tunnel is already mangled, so I have no issues cutting into it more if there's need, but I'm concerned if it's too far back that it'll begin to hit the seat.

    Don't THINK it will be an issue but........measure your bell housing BACK to the shifter....then measure the top loader or look on line for toploader schematic with dimensions.
    Why not put the 300 bucks 'toward' a T-5?! I would look around but..... 600 bucks should get you installed T-5. (You have to change a FEW things but not many.) You get 4 speed WITH OD!!!!

    I was thinking about doing it, but we're trying to keep it as simple as possible. We're already set up to where it should be as in and out as possible, so we don't have many things to change, such as the clutch linkage.

    The big part is cost, and I still have to double check, but I should be able to reuse the bell housing as well as the drive line

    Good call on the toploader. A T5 is not as tough unless you get really lucky or spend some dough on the cobra unit. Might not matter with a stock engine but ya put some torque to it and you will get good at trans swapping.

    Besides the car needs a 4 speed, and maybe a hood scoop!

    Well, we're gonna be dropping the trans this weekend. I've done it one before with my uncle in his Nova, but is there anything I should be watching out for?

    Hi , I am new to the board, but I was wondering if you could share any other insight in your dad’s 62? I have a 62 comet that I am getting started on. I haven’t committed to a direction yet as I am still researching. The previous owner swapped in a ‘65 200 I6. I am torn between trying to rebuild the 6 or go for the v8 swap...
    Thanks for any thoughts or comments that you can share..

    The usual comment on swapping engines on the Comet, Must, ect. that came with a 6 is your better off buying a V8 car rather that changing everything that needs to be changed.

    A warmed up 200 inch I6 can make your Comet scoot along very nicely....
