Technical 40's Ford brake drums

I like to replace my rough '42 to '48 Ford front brake drums ( outside hub mount) with a nice pair of '40 (inside hub) drums .
Are they a direct replacement ? or do they need to be modified ?

40 drums don’t fit on 48 hubs. The whole assembly will interchange though.

 

hoping to switch hubs and drums at once .
Are the bearings the same ?
