    Hi all,
What are you guys running for a wiper setup on your Model A closed cars?

Most of the motor and blade assemblies say that you won’t be able to open the windshield with their setup and the good ones are almost $300.00

    So, what are you running??

    Thanks,
    Cliff Ramsdell

I learned that I dont need a wiper on my avatar. Rain rarely gets on the top half of the glass

I just use an old Model A wiper motor with a voltage reducer so it melds with the 12 volt system in the vehicle. Seems to work ok but I keep a spare in my “parts department”.

As stated, rain-x. Never have had a problem. Use it on the A's and a '35. I also have one of those hokey manual ones. Good conversation piece.

Don’t have anything right now. Have used rain X in the past with mixed results and I have a bottle in the car but most states require a wiper.

@manyolcars i hadn’t thought about that fact, interesting. I have considered the hand wiper to meet the letter of the law but was looking for other choices.

The speedway as well as the high end one I have also looked at but some of the catalogs like Snyder’s and Mac’s say that the cheap motors won’t let the window open and I love the air from that so if that’s the choice then it’s rain x and a hand wiper. Still taking input and pics of your setup using the more cost effective choices. ;)

    Thanks,
    Cliff Ramsdell

I remember an article on putting wipers in a Model A using a VW Bug assembly.... I cant seem to find anything on it now... It is a nice small unit in both 6 & 12 volt...Multiple speeds & self parking....

I don't understand the can't open windshield problem. I am using an American Bosch wiper motor. Has 2 speeds and hooked to an intermittent switch I ordered from www.LeisureLectronics.biz. You can probably find the motor if you google American Bosch. Got mine from a buddy who hoards stuff. Back in the 70's, my home town was home to a bunch of trailer/ RV factories and my wiper motor was surplus inventory. It hangs a bit low but I can live with that since it is a great motor.

Used one marketed by Vintique, chrome housing with Park, no switch. Got one with a 5" long threaded mounting shaft and trimmed to length. Mounted it thru the header bar above the windshield. Outside bezel made from a aluminum alternator spacer. When at park the blade sat above the windshield frame. Still worked even with the windshield tipped out.
