As roo said, Ken Miles wearing helmet. Far left is the best pure hot rodder there ever was, Phil Remington.
This is the Original Venice Crew, the mildly legendary OVC.

If you want to know what the "bad guy" in the movie Ford v. Ferrari looked like in real life, Leo Beebe is standing in dark sports coat to the right of the trophy. (Second biggest asshole at Ford after Harry Bennett.)
Others in the pic are l-r - Ken Miles, Carroll Shelby, Lloyd Ruby, Beebe and I'm drawing a blank on guy far right - HELP!!
OK finally remembered it's Denny Hulme. (iirc this was 1966 Daytona 24-Hour - Miles and Ruby absolutely dominated Daytona 24-Hour that year and Hulme was Formula 1 World Champion the next year.)

Not sure that is actually Denny. Here are a couple of shots of him in the Brabham F1 car from about the same period, even back then his cheeks were a little fuller with his cheekbones more pronounced. I did not get to meet him until much later when "the Bear" had filled out everywhere.

The "Corvace" an AC Ace with a 'vette motor. This car was completed prior to Shelby putting a Ford in an AC and is believed to be one of his inspirations for the Cobra.

Can't tell you much about this one apart from it having a Logghe chassis and having backing from Midwest Auto Parts

    Hello,

On our monthly cleaning of our computer hard drives, I found an interesting photo from my external hard drive files. I was cleaning up those SSD drives when I noticed a clip that was not even on any of the films from 1959. If you blinked, the image was gone. I backed up the image several times and decided that it was at the end of a reel of the original 16mm film, as the next image was shorter than the MG sports car. That image was a FED crew loading their race car onto its own trailer, with the end of the film holes running through the images. It was shorter than the one of the MG on the trailer.

So, here is a modified MG sports car, circa 1959 from Lions Dragstrip. Screw on Moon Discs just made it look faster. There were some MG T type (TA to TF) models with SBC motors. If it was trailered, one could assume it could not be driven to the dragstrip and therefore will be placed in the modified sports car classes. Those small MGs had right hand drives until the TD model in 1950. Also, the allotted steel wheels were 15” making the standard original Moon 15” Discs fit right onto the rim edge. So, since it was 1959 and add up all of the features, it probably was a TD OR TF model.

The sports car class was almost as popular as the factory stock car classes. Some just needed to go faster with the new V8 motors and extra stuff. In my brother’s older teenage circle, there were teens that had sports cars. One was a stock, red MGA. In order to try to fit into the teenage drag race scene, that kid did try his skill at the sports car class. Needless to say, it was fun, but not too successful. There were other better uses for that MGA sports car.

For all others: That was the way it was, if you were there… Helmets? What helmets? Back then, it was a run what you have brought to the dragstrip, directly from the streets. Pop off the hubcaps and go racing…

These are the last pictures of the car at the track. It was around 1967 or 68 at NY National speedway the two kids were neighbors of my friend Dave Daly. They are brothers one is named Tony Leone I don't know the other. Tony saw the car restored and racing at Lebanon valley one year and spoke to me about it, that's how I got the pictures.

That is a TD. The TF had the headlights moulded into the fenders. The TC was more squared off and upright looking.

Before his Old Yeller days, Max Balchowsky and his wife Ina were busy dropping V8s into Austin-Healeys:

One of the first Healey conversions to receive national attention was this SBC into a Healey that was featured in Hot Rod in an article entitled "Haulin'"
