Hey folks remind me, if I disconnect my fuel sending unit wire and ground it, the gauge should go to full right? With ignition on of course.
That's how I remember it, but just checking.
    Thanks,

Just thought of something. If I installed a 12 to 6 volt drop so I can use the old gauge, (because I did) shouldn't the voltage to the sending unit read 6v?
    Thanks

Well I believe at this moment the fuel gauge itself may be faulty.
Checked resistance in sending unit sweep - good.
Checked for 6v at wire to sending unit - good.
    Sending unit ground - good.
When I ground sending unit wire to ground - gauge makes it's way to full.
BUT, when I connect the sending unit and move it to full - the needle on the gauge moves up to 1/4 and then seems to fall back a little before eventually making it's way finally as far as 1/2 tank. And goes no higher.
    Probably gauge - bunk.

Was just now thinking. Maybe the needle in the fuel gauge is loose? Can that happen?
Gonna take it apart this weekend and look - cause its supposed to be up over 30 degrees!

20200130_205646.jpg 20200130_205635.jpg Said heck with it and quickly removed the gauge from the dash - chilly willy in my garage!
Removed black face from front of gauge.
Wow, intricate inside the gauge for 1946!
The pivot point/fulcrum of the needle did seem askew, so I repositioned it to what looks and feels right.
It appears that the very small white wire between the poles is what makes the needle move to FULL mark.
What's even more interesting is that through two small holes in the back of the gauge, this seems adjustable - crazy!
Anyway I thought it was all very interesting and wanted to share a couple photos tonight.
We'll find out this weekend if we need to replace this gauge!

Well it turns out those folks in 1946 knew what they were doing putting the two little adjustment holes in the gauge! Used them to dial my gauge right in from E to F.
Tomorrow going to cut my float arm to length as per instructions, and install the sending unit I got from The Old Ford Store.
Supposed to be even warmer out tomorrow!

Drove down to the gas station today and filled her up. Nice knowing how much fuel you have in your tank! 20200202_162830.jpg

Gb the stance on that car is great! What suspension work is done to it? Whats the wheel/tire size?
