Yes, please start your own thread. The Hamb needs more build threads ! I’ve noticed a lot of negativity about Steve Scott on this forum, so maybe doing a separate thread for your clone is a good idea. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum...eation-united-states-show-tour-dates.1180697/
I absolutely do. If the real Uncertain T still existed, everyone would most definitely know the current owner and the status of the car. Since that has never come to light I believe my assessment is pretty accurate.
i never really cared for the car, but the detail is spot on. if i remember right steve said his was in a garage somewhere in cal. and is seems he couldn't get it back. take that with a grain of salt as my ol brain is a little salty. steve was a member here but don't remember his handle.
Specifically, Steve stated that he sold it to a friend who still has it today. Steve said the friend has had plans to restore the car but hasn't ever followed through. He also said the friend is very private so details beyond this are very minimal. Still a vague hard to believe explanation but its all there is. Last I heard Steve was trying to raise money to come back to America. He's been living in Hawaii somewhere for a while now.
Cool...ya its not the original, but if I had it I wouldn't bitch....but I would be driven the hell out of it and not giving a crap to what side the steering wheel is on ...it doesn't matter anyway because I'm sure it would end up using both sides of the road at one time or another. I always liked the wind up key on the back...the original car is where I got the idea to make a key for my uncle's V-8 Volkswagen bug... This was one of my templates. i hear that, like i said my ol brain is a little salty. i was friends with him on facebook for awhile, but we have a difference of opinion on fishing and hunting so i parted ways.
I saw the car today in Kansas City, and talked to Martin, the builder. Real cool guy. He gave me a copy of the New Zealand Hot Rod magazine that it's in. He wanted my picture by the car. So here I am standing in front of it with the magazine he gave me, plus one of him with the car. I don't know who the women is in the back ground, but she was having fun. At least I thnk it's a women. The car is outstanding. It's road legal in New Zealnd, and he plans on driving it when he gets it back home.
I saw that the original one was for sale.....it was in something that I was just looking at....one moment... Sent from my SM-T387V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Steve Scott has explained that the "For Sale" ad posted above was place by someone else—he thinks possibly Barris—as a prank. It was not placed by him. I've been talking with him quite a bit over the last couple months for a story in our new issue on The Uncertain-T's history and on Martin Bennett's remarkable clone. He came up with some pretty cool photos of the car that we've never seen before.
That would be cool to see personal unpublished photos...ya I just saw that ad while going through some old hot rod magazine's last night. I have the one with the build article with photos also ....I have always liked the car...practical or not it's cool. Plus something different and odd about a car is what gets my attention...that probably explains why I own 3 1950 "Bullet Nosed" Studebakers.... Thanks for the info. Hang on to your hat. Big news will be coming out early in 2024 regarding the Uncertain T. It will shock the car collector world. It disappeared over 40 years ago. No known living person has seen it since; it was lost to antiquity. A variety of treasure hunters have been searching for it, not unlike the "Raiders of the Lost Ark", but all attempts to find out what happened to it have failed. Similar to the legend of Bigfoot, reported sightings have been reported from all over the world. Most of these were people seeing a replica. The fate of the T was a total mystery ever since; until now. The truth of the mystery will be shared to the world, and hundreds of myths will be shattered. It will be the biggest collector car story of the century. Fans of the Uncertain T are in for the treat of a lifetime. Stay tuned!
Steve Scott told me a really far fetched story about his then wife and a former friend involving them having an affair right in front of him to apparently try to make him have a heart attack and die so they could steal the car. Yes he told me this on the phone probably 10 years ago.... He said the car is in Calif wine country hidden in a garage... I love the car, if it comes out and if it is for sale unrestored, I would jump at the chance to get it. As far as this being the car find of the decade? I think that the Grabowski T and the Golden Sahara trump it. Don't get me wrong it is still a great car....
That's a lot of smoke blowing. If it was such a big deal, why would such propaganda be needed? It's interesting, but it's no bigfoot.
So I guess there's 2 really admirable clones but apparently the real deal was squirreled away in an awkward deal of sorts... Maybe this new messenger is Steve Scott under a new alias here...someone said he was a member here... I like time capsules so I hope the New Year brings a dusty survivor back for a visit...
I'd have no problem driving and owning it! It is to cool for words ! No one at the car show would roll up next to you with the same ride.
I'm sorry, not a fan. Even when it first appeared in the magazines, I just passed over it as another goofy-ass show car. It does have a nice chasss/drivetrain though...I think if I found the original, I'd put a "real" body on it, and put the original body out back and store firewood in it. How's that for stirring the pot?
