I have to be honest, I only like a handful or so of the cars pictured but I appreciate
seeing the photos. Thanks to you guys that posted and shared your pics.

wish the KKOA shows had more of these customs enter now. seems to be a lot of later model cars now that aren't really customs. Like the muscle cars, they have their place, just not at a KKOA show. Just saying.

Does anybody remember this 40 Dodge. It seemed like he drove all around the fairground blowing his musical horns all day long. Drove my brother nuts.

Can't help but wonder how many of these cars survived and are still with us today?

I attended that Ohio show!! I didn't realize it until you said that. I don't remember why, but my Dad and I were near there for some other reason and we went to the show for an hour or two.

I have only went to the Spectacular in Salina, but enjoy the show. KKOA puts on a great show.

That`s Doug Thompson, holding the hood. It`s his machine. Enjoyed watching him punch louvers. These were there, but taken at different shows. The bottom one was in primer. and was at the 85 show. …………... Scan0011.jpg

That's me punching them, I was walking by and he asked me if I cared to give him a hand, "I said sure", had a blast at that show, so much so that I bought my merc and went back to the 85 show

Any pics of your Merc. I`ll post a pic of my dad`s Vicky when I get my scanner working again. He bought it after going to the 82 show in Des Moines.

I took the merc over to the 85 show at Springfield, the flathead vapor locked at the registration booth at the front gate, it ended up setting there all day. This picture is from Doug Reed' s video footage, thanks again Doug! Had a good time all day Saturday, started home and my hour ride took 4.5 hours with the flathead, it was 95 degrees hot and humid that day.

  27. The '85 Leadsled video is my favorite. I've watched it at least a hundred times.
I remember just before the picture that @DANSLED posted, there were a few sleds pulled in parked by what looked to be little cottages. Cheap lodgings at the event? Couldn't tell 'ya.
I also remember seeing the '51 Merc with the hood up wondering what the problem was, and if the poor guy ever made it home. I was also sympathetic to the fact that he was having car trouble at one of the greatest car events of the time. We've all been there @DANSLED, but that day was your turn (lol)! But, at least you can say (and prove) that you were there.
Thanks for posting a great memory! E

These pictures are taken in St. Louis, the car club my Dad was in met all the guys coming from out East in St. Louis and they had an impromptu car show in the hotel parking lot. The next day the all made there way to the show.

I took these pictures out of Wayne Jones’s photo album at the James Dean Run. Wayne has the Kustom shoebox with the quad canted headlights and hemi power that he has owned since the 50s, he is also one heck of a nice guy!
