It's complicated, found a used up cheep Crosley Hot Shot, when I was collecting parts for my hot rod build(28A Roadster)* But as soon as I got the little Hot Shot running enough to drive around the yard n house in the grass,Dad took it to build his dream H-Mod SCCA sports car out of,an I was back too my pile of old Ford parts, trying to make my hot rod. By 1959 I did have my Hotrod so it run with T-bird V8,an did drive it too highschool 60,61,62<also in 60 found a $75 Henry J to have a car that ladys would go on a date in{ Miami Fla. dose have rain an ladys love a ride in the hot rod at first, but not a date in one, hair blows an not private for makeout ect.
"J" got customized by me as well,an made Car Craft mag in Jan 63. I still have my A Roadster.

Back in the 50,s my dad traded a load of gravel for a 30 model A more door that was in great shape and a good runner. I was only about 15 and drove the shit out of it for about 2 to 3 weeks before my mother said it had to go, he will kill himself she said so off it went. If she only knew some of the other stuff me and my buddies were up to she would have had a fit, LOL.

A black 1948 Holden [FX] sedan. It was a local GM Holden's product, you could say a modified and scaled down version of 1942-48 North American GM.

In 1984 at the ripe age of 16 I found the most perfect 65 Corvair Corsa you could ever find sitting at a gas station for sale. I don’t know the story behind it but it was a 10 out of 10!

I drove it for a couple of months and promptly traded it for a thrashed 65 mustang fastback -disc brake - 4 speed car that didn’t run. I thought my old man would kill me but he just looked at me like I was crazy and smiled

He gave me guidance getting the Mustang on the road but made me do all the work myself. It was never in as good as shape as the Corvair was but I loved that car. Even though the Mustang would be worth 5 times what the Corvair would be worth today - I would rather have the Corvair.

My first car is a 62 volvo. Drug it out of a field about a year and a half ago and got it back on the road in 6 months. It's not american, but I haven't broken it yet. Coolest car in the high school parking lot. 20200125_164738.jpeg 20190903_174050.jpeg

  16. OT 69 Javelin. $450. Dad told mom "I want him to be able to take that car apart and put it back together ." To my dad any engineer who went out to the employee parking lot and couldn't figure out why the car wouldn't start were 100% worthless. He didn't want me to be one of those guys. Thanks, dad.

  17. 60 Ford pickup. Bought it out of a junkyard for $50.

49 Olds Super 88 bought out of a junkyard with a bad trans and a replacement trans which I along with a few friends changed out in our driveway with the rear of the engine supported with 1 of my dad's tire chains stretched between the frame rails and us young and dumb kids pulling that heavier than hell 4 speed Hydromatic and somehow lifting the replacement back in place without dropping it on any of us!

  19. 1964....First one I bought with a title was my $50,1950 Ford Crestliner . Bought it with a known busted block. My dad and I built a 53 Merc engine for it. Ran like a watch. Rockysfirstshubox1.jpg rockysfirstspeedequipt1964 (1).jpg
I put a proper 1950 hood and grill in the car after this photo was taken.

I bought a 70 Torino (rustbox) with a 351C, and a 75 Gran Torino with a bad engine from one of Dad's friends, and put the two together in 1988. That got me by until I could buy my REAL first car, my 64 Falcon Futura V8 hardtop, which I still have. Bought it in 89. Graduated class of 90 (One of the youngest in the class, through boot camp before turning 18).

Makes me think of my dad. He was also an engineer.
Called many of them “Educated Idiots”
Though he never sailed. He taught this sailor how to cuss!

1970 Ford Galaxie 500 was my first car I put on the road. My Mom totaled my actual first car before I got to drive it. That was a 1972 Buick Skylark GS 455 Stage 1. Wish I had that one now.:(

  23. My first car was a 1956 Ford Fairlane 2 door sedan 292/auto. I had to share it with my sister to get to and from high school in 65. After that, it became mine so I nosed and decked it, spinner hubcaps, converted it to a manual 3 speed in the floor, bucket seats out of a 62 Falcon Futura and did general tinkering with it, learning how to fix things. Sold it when Uncle Sam sent me to the Orient. When I came back in 70 I bought a 66 Fairlane XL 390/4 speed. I loved that car and wish I had kept it. I was always changing something on it to make it faster, quicker or prettier.

1960 Renault Daphine in 1967. My buddy had blown the head gasket on the NY State Thruway. It became mine for the $37.50 towing fee. Surfaced the head and drove it to college until Jan '69 when it lost a battle with a depressed manhole cover.
I quickly put the '57 Chevy I bought for parts on the road. I had paid $55 for it with a Hurst shifter in it from a police auction. It had a crushed rr fender, no interior and a cracked block. Junkyard interior for $15 & $15 for a rear fender. Swapped in the 265 my dad bought me in '63 to learn about engines.
I got drafted in June '69. The 265 was knocking. A friend had pulled the 283 out of his '61 'vette and offered it to me.
I swapped.engines on leave before my first duty assignment. I got it first started it the night before I drove it 250 miles to Maryland at the end of my leave.
Parked it in my dad's garage in August '70 to go to Vietnam.
Used it when I got home in June '71.
I sold it for $500 in September '72. I was lucky to get the $500 as it looked like crap: dechromed, Gray primered on the sides and burning oil.

  27. G'day, The first car I bought was a 1963 Corvair Monza but being 13 I couldn't "own" it. My dad and I picked up a 1956 Belair more door that was our first overhaul project but at 14 I still couldn't own it.

The first car I owned was a 1956 2dr post. When I bought it the car was black with black interior with a belly button 350 with a 4 speed. After owning it a week it had a 406 with a stock dual four setup on it. It had a nice noisy M22 behind it. Black 15x8 Corvette rims with baby moons and black wall wide radials. It was so stock looking it looked like a grandpa's car. The only give away was the snubber traction bars. I miss that car.

68 Mustang coupe. 302 auto power disc brakes. Drove it to high school in the mid eighties for last two years until one of the shock towers rotted and the metal started to rip.
