...Wowee...that's a work of art @Gotgas...great capture...there's a tinge of the Caped Crusader in that Shadow...its interesting as someone mentioned in your thread recently that Batman would have done well to have had this as his Driver or something to that effect.

    Hello,
Last week, while driving into the “Surf Ghetto” area to talk to a friend in the surfboard industry, I saw this 1951 Ford Victoria sitting in a repair/restoration shop parking lot. It was in excellent shape and is currently undergoing this and that, to get it running in top shape. But, who would have thought that a big 1950's sedan would give off such a shadow. A 11 am photo on a bright and sunny day in So Cal did the trick.

The unusual thing is that this “surf ghetto” area has its name for the countless surfboard shops, places where the surfboards are shaped and made, as well as clothing warehouses. But, it is also the central area for car repair, restoration, custom builds, and just about any thing associated with hot rods, vintage Chevy parts/restoration, sports cars, trucks, 4x4s and family sedans. It is the industrial area that caters to all tastes.

    Jnaki

All of these years of taking photographs and movies brought out one enemy of those “Magazine quality” shots did not include shadows. We all tried to take photos prior to the lunch hour and on sun-less days. Overcast still provided quality color photos and B/W prints. But, yes, the color shots of bright paint on sunny days just brings out changes in the quality of the photo.

A shine there, shadow not wanted here, dark interior over compensating from a light meter, etc. There were some excellent, sunny day shots over the years, but my best seemed to come from early morning or late afternoon shots. Shadows not included was a key factor in acceptable magazine shots.

This 1951 Ford sedan just happened to be sitting in the bright sun on one of those drive by days. The digital camera gives plenty to work with, in the photo editing portion of our files.

@jnaki your stepping out of your comfort zone. I appreciate it.

You had to play by the rules I get it. As evidenced by many period shots here not all Photographer's were instructed in this manner, then again perhaps they were outtakes...

I do remember while reading the magazines seeing pics heavily edited perhaps in an effort to keep the car and get rid of the hideous shadows some with disastrous results, but again so many shadows cast by our vintage cars are entirely interesting...at least from my perspective...You have Stogy's approval here I guarantee it...;)

Thanks for capturing the shady side J...

Here's one I captured the other day...the setting Sun cast a shadow of the Ole Hotrod onto the side of the T-Bird...again they aren't just Daily Drivers they are uniquely shaped Vintage Cars

We have shadows how about reflections? LOL :)

Look to the left of both wheels and see the round white reflections that look to come from the wheels. (blow it up to big size and you can see them clearly)
I first thought they were chalk marks on the tarmac.

Shadow albeit unwanted in many circles plays an integral part in this Artworks Ambience...I am Unsure of the Artist posted by @Jive-Bomber in a great thread showcasing some of the Vintage Hotrod/Custom/Race Artists

The Link to that Thread is below...

Hamber @Wardog is building a real cool Hotrod Frame......it's actually more than a frame project but I did have to venture back to the original posts to see what was going on this gem of a Chassis...a Model A Coupe...;)

Wardog, Awesome Hotrod Coming together and your Very Good with the Camera too...Apart from the scene and the Shadow which almost looks to have Motion Blur, I love the way the Headlight Arc flows with the Old Bias Plys...cool pipes too with the aggressive angle of attack...

Wardogs build is at link below...

...I'm very happy the rules were broken here as many times those long shadows cast help paint a picture of who was around the day this Hotrod sporting some unusual twists stopped for a moment...and speaking of reflections the fella with the shadow on the right is reflected in the Hubcap...Thanks for the memories Hotrodder's

    Another of @rbantique's offerings...
