Mel, keep in mind that not all of the listed intakes interchange. If you find an Edmonds 2x2 it will be for the 51-53 331, and the 2x4 will be for a 54-331, both will have t-stat cast in. Yes, they could be used on later engines but they will not be a simple bolt-on. The Edmonds intakes are also a bit taller than later dual-carb intakes (like Weiand or oem)

As to height, the 3x2, 4x2 and 2x4 inline will be the lowest due to the single plane design.

  4. What kind of differences do you see in the early to late intakes Gary? Inquiring minds want to know.

Kerry, I may have been a bit vague, sorry if there is confusion.
Obviously, the 51-53 has a 'port size' issue, and the 54 has the t-stat issue. If using a 51-54 intake on a 55-58 engine then 'something' has to be done with the t-stat(s), hence the 'not a simple bolt-on' statement.
Nothing dramatic, just additional work to contend with.

Either block off the Thermostat opening, or block off the front of the heads & use a 392 or chevy waterpump.

It's an old thread. but I just unwrapped this, hiding in the rafters. Was saving it for my 57 392 going into something project. Ready to go with rebuilt carbs, linkage and 2 new air filters 1634285 10/58 date

Maybe a silly question, if someone can help me with, are 354 & 392 intakes interchangeable? Thanks in advance:)

  10. Yes the intake s will interchange as long as there both passenger car engines. Some 354 truck heads are slightly different in the heat riser area.
