The taillight bezels are kustom made by Dave Wolk. The reason he made them, a stock Hudson taillight bezel is not even on both sides. He wanted it to look like a NOS piece. A lot of work to make it look like a bolt on. Lol! Since he was making one set he decided to make two pairs. Dennis McPhail was at the right place at the right time. The other set is bolted to the 41 Buick.... That is why the Wolk brothers are so special. They have a kool eye for the small details.

When I recently purchased a set of 48 Hudson tail lights I didn't realise until I recceived them that they are different on the lhs/rhs of the bezel. This is to allow them to sit "flat" on the car. It isn't a major difference and we will do some frenching around the bezel to line them up properly but still be able to see the chrome surround.

Is that the original that Dick Dean put together for David Lee back in the day? Or did Keith build another? I read years ago that Roth's Merc was the first one Dick did the late model {at that time } G M full size chassis/ floor pan swap to for Roth's cross country bet with one of the guys from MTV at the time. The Panama video rekindled my life long love of custom Mercs . Saw my first one when I was 6 in Milwaukee Wi in 1961. Did not see another one in person till the till 86 or 87 at the Milwaukee world of wheels. Larry

I bought my air cleaner years ago from Flathead Jack, he’s retired now, but I don’t know where he sourced them from. He was in Walnut Creek, California at that time.

Keith built another one and it turned out very kool.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. 1984 was a big year for Mercury. It was the year for the second Merc Deuce Reunion (My first) and Diamond Dave driving his around. After all of that exposure, I had to get me a Mercury.

Plus David Lee Roth's original car was a 4-door built by "Mercury John" in Riverside..

The original. A fordor, as previously stated.
The dope is... DLR bet on a cross-country drive. Shipped the car, flew the distance, and arrived in sweat and grime "patina", to collect on the bet. Call him "Mr. SHOW Biz". ;)
