Projects Outside mirror for a Henry J are there any good looking candidates ?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by swade41, Jan 23, 2020.

  1. Not really any photos of stock Henry J or Kaiser outside rearview mirrors, or much luck doing online searches for a decent looking round head mirror.
I know some parts for 49-51 fords interchange with J's so I looked them up but it shows 2 different styles, I like the one but not the long base, the other looks a little thick in the stalk.
Is there any other round head mirror with a slim stalk, short base design ?

  3. I'm looking for something similar to what I posted, I already have round clamp on mirrors that like to shake, rattle and roll.

While it don't have a round head, a chrome mirror from a Vega does look good on an older car.

These are fender mirrors, as popular on sports cars in the fifties. The first pic shows motorcycle mirror.

I used tri-5 Chevy mirrors. Readily available and I think they look "right" on my car.

  8. Every time my buddy came over in his 56 Chevy I'd look at them, then I remember him complaining about all the time he spent lining it up to mount it, then not being able to see out of it after the fact.
There's just not a whole lot of styles after doing hrs of searches, mopars are short and stubby, camaros look like 60 chevys, fords look like GM...just crazy

Hagan Street Rods www.haganauto.com has a selection of all different types of mirrors called Fatties. I have them on my cars.

Not being able to see well on Tri-Fives is due to the wind wing window. It has to be that far back and sucks for viewing so I'd think what ever you pick may cause the same situation to happen (but I've never sat in a J either). On my avatar you'll notice I have one piece windows. This has allowed me to move my single driver side view forward. What a difference over the stock location.

Another vote for a Tri 5 mirror. Danchuk's best for $70

Round mirrors for round headlights, square mirrors for square headlights... Or, maybe not....

  15. ..........I never thought about that, but it surely makes good sense.

I have no trouble seeing with my Tri-5 mirrors though I've also went with 1 piece door glass and my seat position is farther back than stock.

  18. How about peep mirrors? Got them on my Ford, from Summit. Took a little to get used to but I like them.

  19. The bottom photo in the lead photos is my car, you can see the peep mirrors, everything is solid mounted so they shake being on that window frame. I really want something mounted to the door.
