History A History of the Anglia Gasser

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Speed Gems, Sep 7, 2016.

  1. Just going to throw this out there - a guy up north of Ft Worth took a 4 door and made a coupe. It's on CraigsList and I finally had to go look at it....it really is some nice work with an original chassis with front and rear axles/wheels still !

Not mine but he's at $2500 with the "get to finish it " blues.....

  2. That car must have sold, I did a search for it and it didn't come up. Can you post a link to it?

"HUTS DYNO SHOP" would have been Ron Hutter's shop in Chardon Ohio. Everything out of his shop ran like crazy.

This is my son's '48 Anglia. He is on the west coast. He keeps it at my place in the midwest. I bought it for him when he was 13 for a father / son project. He did much of the work with my guidance. I told him we were just going to put a mildly built 240 ci inline six in it and we could build a stouter engine for it "when he can demonstrate to me that he was a 'responsible' driver". Well, he's 45 now so I think he's earned a bigger/better engine. I built him a 303 ci Ford six with all the goodies. I will take his 240 engine and use it in my '49 Anglia 3-holer gasser clone. It ran in the 14's at the drags. I expect the 303 will be well into the 13s on pump gas and street tires.
We take it to the drags when he comes home for a visit. Among other mods we sunk the headlights into the front fenders to get rid of the frog eye effect.
Both cars have C4 3-speed automatics, IFS w/discs, narrowed 9-Inchers w/ 3.0 gears and square tube chassis. anglia0703_3.jpg

The pick up in the first photo is home made but the other three are all factory built Aussie utes with the last one being from my home state.

    roo,
Do you know how the Aussie ute bodies were fabbed? Started w/ a sedan? or Prefect? Or new turret and box stampings?

That home built one is neat.

As far as I know the doors were from the Prefect 4 door (shorter than the Anglia) and the rest of the pieces were local stampings. After all Ford Australia did create the first ute in 1934--the original Ranchero I guess. ;)

    I believe that's (roo) correct.
I knew a guy that had a Anglia (other manufacturers too) 1950 Ute. Blown small Chevy, fun little car.
The interior was open steel, no covering. There was no welding as in there would be on a custom assembly.

The above, silver and black Anglia/Thames Panel was parked in a building at this years Grand National Roadster Show. I believe it's not the only time that its showed up there too.

Doesn't look like it gets driven much, no "visible" paint nicks at the bottom of the grill.

That's a beautiful truck. You can't appreciate how diminutive those are until you look inside at the size of the driver.
