Hey guys been a long time since I posted on here! I acquired an engine for my build it's a 57 283 bored .060 and has been 0 decked its gots some slugs in it I was hoping to find some info on. They are a pop up and look to be forged part #L2148. thanks for any info.
I looked in an old TRW catalog but have no info on that part number. I had L2210 TRW’s for a 301 back in the late ‘60’s but the numbering was changed at some point to use numbers in the 7000 series. Info from my 1983 catalog shows TRW listed a 283 +.060 piston with 11.6 comp that they called the Race Version of the Fuel Injection piston. IIRC the F.I. used 1/8” domes. They also had another one at 12.4-1 compression that obviously had more dome height. It does look like yours were cut for more valve clearance.
von Dyck Member from Saskachewan, Canada Due to pin offset, the left side pistons are L2149, and the right side pistons are L2148. TRW designates these pistons to the 1961-63 Corvette Fuel Injection engine. Source:TRW 1972 Engine Parts Specificatons Factory CR was 11:1. The KB piston #166 Hyper shows it as O.E. replacement for 57 - 61 fuel injected Corvette with the following CR chart: 55cc = 11.0 58cc = 10.5 62cc = 10.0 64cc = 9.7
GB, You should take a drive down here to Everett, Wa., and I'll give you another .060 over 283 block and balanced rotating assembly. It's torn down, the ridge has been cut from the cylinders, and it comes with an 097 camshaft and lifters still in the correct order. Has forged, 1/8"/.125 dome pistons (Thompson, before they were TRW). A FREE, un-assembled, short block. Also has a fully degree'd dampener, and oil pump/tacked welded on pickup. Or send one of your friends. Did I say it was FREE? I am Butch/56sedandelivery.
yeah the valve reliefs look a bit more clearanced and the dome is decent size sticks out a bit I have not measured it yet I will be in the shop probably tmrw to take another look! but thanks for the info
I saw this this in the searches but I was unsure how accurate it was that's why I started a new thread just to see what others thought
Block just needs to be hot tanked, new soft plugs and cam bearings. Not rusted, just greasy/dirty, and even that's not bad. I was just going to soak it in a barrel of diesel fuel, then solvent, and ring/bearing it. But, I've got way to many projects, and stuff in the way. PM me is you want it. If you want to do a 301/302, I also have a DZ 302, #1178, large journal crank; just use a large journal 4" bore block. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.
GB showed up today to claim his prize, another 283 block, punched .060 over with a balanced rotating assembly, and .125 dome pistons; in a 283 it's probably a 10 or 10.5:1 C.R. piston. 097 cam and lifters to make it rev. I have a little more room in the garage/shop!!! I am Butch/56sedandelivery.
Very cool, my 0.060 over..292 had the top of the cylinder walls notched for intake valve unshrouding.
