Hi: the 39 Deluxe was one of the best looking car's Ford ever made. The much liked 40 was just a rehash of perfection.
Go with the deluxe, leave all the trim on.
Just my opinion , I have owned 8 39-40 fords, the one I kept for 40 years now is my 39 Deluxe coupe, nuf said.:)

i would go with the deluxe. but my gramps has 3 39 deluxes (2 tudors and a convert) sitting in the barns awaiting their turn in the shop. so i am a little biased.

I've always liked the 40 standards or the 39 deluxes.
but I kinda got stuck with a beater 40 deluxe.
    The dash is so nice,
And I'm learning to like the long nose grille too.
The chevrons are a coin flip

The teardrops, swoopy hood/grille though are so hot on a '39 deluxe

The post started a long time ago, what did you end up getting?

The most common old cars out there are the '39 deluxe and the '40 Std and Deluxe. They all look pretty much the same from the side of the road. I always liked the '38 Deluxe/'39 Std coupe and looked for years before finding one in decent shape and priced right. If you want to be one of many, buy the '39 Deluxe. If not, buy the Std.

I wish I had that kind of dilemma. I'd go for the 38 standard.

    JH,

The '39 was bone stock when i picked it up last year, i had a week to go through things before the roadtrip & one of those things was to drop the front down a little without too much work. Taking some good advice from Mike (av8) i opted for a new de-arched spring & will most likely put the dropped beam in over the winter, i may even put the stock spring back in when i do this as it rides a little hard with the new spring.

The rear height i left as stock, 600x16 front & 700x16 rear.

    I agree--compromise on both...

If you have a DeLuxe, you'll have to put up with idiots saying "Nice '40".
If you go with the standard, they'll all say "Nice '38".

  10. The '39 Deluxe is beautiful. A '40 has nothing on it.

The '39 Standard is a killer in its own right too.

    I'm partial to the short-deck '38s myself.
