I finally get the Crusty flathead block set up and in a position to start boring for liners. Four of the bores were so badly deteriorated a liner (sleeve) is the only viable repair. The basis of this video is the third one I did, as I was establishing methods and processes that were working. I am a novice and am self taught. Experts will probably cringe at me muddling my way through, with just helpful advice from forums to steer me. I show some details of the tool setting and measuring. I show the third liner going in but also cut in the other three going in as well. Presented purely for entertainment rather than a how to please find my latest offering: Mart.
If you like the video please reply to this thread to give it a bump. Things move so quickly these days. (God I sound old). Mart.
Nice work! Normally you should measure the sleeve at like 3 spots around the top, middle, and bottom, and then average the numbers...I allways use a dial bore gauge to measure the cylinder, not sure about the accuracy of a snap gauge and caliper in that situation. But regardless, it's really cool that you are jumping right into it!
Another very educational video Mart! I don't know if I would have the nerve to do that but it would be tempting if I had access to your boring machine.
Thanks for the replies and bumpage fellas. Re measuring the liners. I measured at 90 degrees two measurements at the top and the same at the bottom and applied averaging where the dimensions were different. I'm learning every day. Having the tool with the replaceable tips helps a lot. I wouldn't fancy doing it with HSS and having to sharpen them by hand. Mart.
Mart, are you going to bore those liners .045 oversize and re-use those pistons and rings you already have? I've enjoyed the videos.
Hi Mart.Another great video as usual. Thanks for taking the time and effort to make and post them. Good luck.Have fun.Be afe. Leo
Thanks for the comments guys. Yeah, I'm looking at using the slightly used .045 pistons to fit the ethos of "what is the minimum we need to do to make this run".
Great job Mart,,,this shows how to never give up and quit. You have done very well so far,,,,more than I could have done. Sir Winston Churchill said,,,,”we shall never surrender “. Tommy
