Technical What is this knob?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Nicholas Coe, Jan 15, 2020.

  1. In the header above the windshield of this 1932 Ford coupe next to the rear view mirror you will see a pull down knob. I can't seem to find out what this controlled. I don't think it was for the wipers. Look closely and you will see the long knob. What do you think? Thank you!

    Choke ..........?
Well it does actually look like a ‘32 choke......
Someone’s idea of a joke ? Or does it start the wiper perhaps ?

  4. I wondered. It's really odd and long. Does look like a choke. I was thinking wiper but it's too long.

  13. Any chance it is part of a turn signal system for a European car? Is there any mechanism behind the panel or any arms that would flip out as a turn signal? What is the serial number of the car (use XXX for the last three digits if you are concerned)?

It's not a European car, it's a California car. The baddest car in the Valley.

Look s to me somebody used a extra long knob and shaft for the wipers and then shortened it by bending it down.

Thinking wiper control too; bent down to act as a crank ?

  22. It's mechanical, not electrical, right? Is it straight up? Where does it go to? Give it a wiggle, don't be skeered.
I'm wondering if it was used for a roof-mounted spotlight. maybe with a switch in another place, now long gone.

  23. Maybe as stated. Bent 90 degrees at the top and attached to a manual wiper arm.
