Projects A brake drum as an air cleaner?

Pans kinda restrict airflow. Brake drum is just a no.

 

A brake drum for an air cleaner?....hmmmm
All that comes to mind is ...
But Why?

It looks neat, lots of effort there to be different.
Not for me, looks to much weight sitting in a carb

I’ve seen the hub caps before n pie pans n pot they look neat n clean

never a brake drum !

The pan lids on the dual quads look the part of some of those air cleaners we saw back years ago. At least they look the part and the uninformed wouldn't know different plus the pack of Camels rolled in the T shirt sleeve experts would claim that they used to have a set just like that on their 56 Chevy with the Corvette dual quads.
Those brake drums NAA that is just trying too frigging hard to get attention because you don't think the car will draw enough on it's own merits otherwise. Plus it smacks of RR.

At least you know it dissipates heat

 

My first thought was..........because an air cleaner doesn't work good enough as an air cleaner?

 

My old Sedan Deliv. now belongs to Hamtown Al and he made ALL that green go away. He has it for sale in the HAMB classifieds

 

The pan lids are 7” the filters are 5”.Way more open than a 245/270 Chevrolet slots on there stock ones and taller...... so I don’t think so

Ya, putting it vertical like it should be would put it over the top.

 

It's not my cup of tea but I give it to them for engineering.

If it makes them happy I guess thats all that matters.

Why not just mount the spare tire to it they're at it? Multi-task/multi-functional. If I were to see that at a car show, I'd just stand there and laugh till the owner ran and hid. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

 

Wouldn't be bad if you do it in fiberglass.

 

Here's an idea: How about an air cleaner for an air cleaner?!

 

I like it, but I'd want it machined out real thin to reduce the weight.
Better title would be aluminium brake drum.
Mind you if everybody had one I think I'd lose interest pretty quick.
It sure ain't any worse than some of the junk ideas I've seen in the past.
I respect innovation and function, but some stuff will never cut it...

Well. A brake drum for an air cleaner would work better than an air cleaner for a brake drum.

While I am not crazy about the brake drum for an air cleaner, at least he chose the aluminum finned one ! Off a Pontiac/ Buick? I don’t totally dislike it, but as some have mentioned it might be a bit heavy? But that’s hot rodding! Figuring out some crazy/ better / unique way of doing something. Cut the guy some slack!
I was at my home town parade and there was a guy there with a “ different “ kinda of car.... but I dug his air cleaner. He had it hooked up with the throttle so that it opened when he gave it the gas! The rest of his ride..... didn’t really fit here, hence I didn’t post it......up close anyway!

strangely that doesn't bother me much. Not sure about the fuel rail or whatever, but the valve cover over the carbs isn't 1/2 bad I think.

 

This second version is better than the first one shown. As far as weight you could easily mill a lot of it away.
