Here I am back for more education. What is the difference between a 350 and 305 distributor? A friend gave me a distributor from a 350, I was going to install it today and the drive gear was too big to go through the hole in the block. I thought they were interchangeable??? Thanks Scott Sent from my SM-S367VL using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
The same distributor should fit in either a 305 or a 350. I'm not sure if you even have a Chevy distributor. Lou
yup, the only v8 chev distributors that are different are 348 and 409.... even a big block 396 - 454 distributors will fit a small block
It is not a long shaft distributor, it looks more like a Pontiac to me. Sent from my SM-S367VL using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
46 Poncho, are you sure it was the gear stopping it? There are big block distributors that are longer which were used on the 366+427 truck tall deck engines. They look like other distributors but are about 1/4 inch longer.
Yep, gear would not fit. It is a very short distributor like a Pontiac. I was going on what I was told, that it was a 350 Sent from my SM-S367VL using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Pontiac, Buick, and Oldsmobile each made their own version of the 350 engine, and they're all different from the Chevy. But without pics, we can only make wild guesses.
Olds...Buick used a o-ring also , but the Buick shaft is a little longer Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Correct..Notice lack of vacuum advance. O/P, what are you going to do with that thing? Your friend didn't give you much.
