Stripping down an 8BA with passenger car water pumps. They all came out really easily but one.... the driver's side top outboard bolt head is too close to the casting. Can't get a socket or a box/open end wrench on it. Every bolt on this engine comes out as if they were put in yeasterday but I have be able to grip the bugger! Any tips? I thought about grinding down the wall of a socket but that's as far as my thoughts go.

In the immortal words of Rosannerosanna Danna, "Never mind...". Occasionally my old brain actually comes up with an idea just to prove it has a more important role than just making sure my skull doesn't collapse! Went with giving a cheap socket a bit of a shave. Bolt came out very easlity once loosened.

I wonder what tool was used to install the bolt in the first place?

Use anti-seize when you go back in...

I always use anti seize (I do a good impersonation of the Tin man) unless it's specifically not called for. I even use on my cornflakes!

Got it out. Will be using different pumps with more clearance.

Occasionally the pump bolts can be rusted into place......especially nasty if it’s the one inside the hose outlet. We stock stainless steel bolt kits (including stainless lock washers) for the flathead pumps.

Thanks for that but all of the bolts have come out quite easily!
