Hi there Mike, good to have you following along. I have been tying up loose ends on my '40, stripping off accessories and getting it ready to ship off for paint, before jumping back on the '29. The decision on the firewall will come when I get to that point. It might be aluminum, because that's easier for me to form and shape, and looks correct on a race car. I am a fan of clear anodizing, for that spartan look. IMG_3749.JPG

I have been helping a couple of buddies with projects. Removed some pesky hinge pins, to get the doors off, and sent it to the sandblaster. The '29 will be our on site transportation at the salt next year. Welding boxing plates, front and rear in a '32 chassis, then back on the RPU ! IMG_3760.JPG IMG_3764.JPG

Thanks for posting that video Larry. Back in 2016 at CHHR, my friends and I were passing through the pit gate, and off in the distance I hear a blown engine fire up. With at least 100-150 blown race cars present, I thought the unique sound was the truck, we hustled through the maze and were able to shoot that video.

Chris, I think I am OK on QC parts, but I may need something, such as advice, your a trusted source ! On the RPU, I had a problem with the body mounting holes, got that solved, and set the body in place. The radiator should be on it's way, then I can finalize the engine mounting. Can't wait to set it on the floor ! IMG_3775.JPG IMG_3776.JPG

The new radiator should arrive anytime, in the meantime I stayed busy fabbing and installing some hidden hood hold downs on the 32. I also started on a new Track Roadster, by digging out all my patterns for the project, and getting the chassis ready for assembly today. The patterns were used to build 10 cars, I haven't used them for 10 years. On the 29 RPU I have been thinking of a Vega cross steering. The ratio of those steering gears is 22 to 1, I would like something a little quicker, and have an in line Howe steering quickener that would get it to around 15 to 1. Not sure what to do. Lengthen the pitman arm on the Vega. Should be an easy task for a fabricator like you. See you Saturday.

Thanks Jim and Pete. Don't you think 22 to 1 is a little slow, or have I been "Roundy Racin" too long ? My last experience with slow steering in a drag car was this Jeep, 82" WB , 11.41 @ 117, nearly took out the tree a few times, Track Manager Jim Rockstad didn't like me much ! Jim, I am staying home this year, I only go every 20 years. Jeep 1.jpg

Long pitman arm would help. I was going to use this early 50's Chevy truck arm on a reversed HT Holden box until I found an old sprint car box. Those arms should fit a Vega box.

I remember installing an old Schroeder sprint car steering in my roadster during one of its rebuilds and shortening up the arm to slow it down. I didn’t have the room to put a doubler in backwards which others have done.
    Ain’t hot ridding fun. ........

My schedule should have me back on it Monday, but for now, this is the setup I plan on using for the street engine. I will need another 390 Holley carb. IMG_3916.JPG

Flaming River makes a 16:1 Vega, but I think Borgeson has the best quality.

Are you going to have a Dragstrip ? I talked to Jerry King on Sunday, he said he was bringing his A/FD.
