Hi everyone! I’m going to share some pictures of my 28 model A (AR) roadster hot rod project. My goal is to make an early 40s prewar style racer build. Any cool pictures for inspiration will be more than welcome! The day I brought it home New wheels! 36-39 wide 5 Set of Winfield carbs, the previous owner told me his grandfather raced in the “fuerza libre” category and had them installed on a flathead ford with a McCulloch supercharger! Super cool Mocking up the Winfield. Love it! More mock-up haha 32 grill and axle Model T rear spring with reverse eye Rear height. T spring, reverse eye, 6 leafs total Enviado desde mi iPad utilizando H.A.M.B.
I love the direction this car is taking, and looks like a really solid body to start with, certainly by my Wisconsin standards. Would love to know the history on that grille shell, looks like it's been around.
Looks like you bought it from a land of dreams...and if that's your shop you have a dreamland for inspiration everyday...there's a couple here doing that era of Hotrod... AV8's but same era of focus...I have to add there are so many more... @Nick Agius https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum...ille-roadster-40s-style-build-thread.1099322/ @Budweiser doesn't have a build Thread but it is here... https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/1929-ford-roadster.1178962/ @louisb https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/the-brooks-special-louisb’s-29-lakes-roadster-build.1107348/ @Wardog https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/aussie-32-frame-build.1138880/ All these fellas above do in fact have Hotrods with early 40s roots in the makeup...
Haha thankfully rust is not a big problem around here, we don’t have snow and the climate is relatively dry. Believe it or not I found that grill on a 1928 Chevrolet, a couple of weeks ago I saw the ad of the car for sale and immediately asked the seller if he was willing to sell me the grill, luckily for me he did hahah Enviado desde mi iPad utilizando H.A.M.B.
Thanks for the info! That’s my shop, my dad started buying and selling parts in the 80s and now we are here haha. My plan is to keep the banger it sounds super healthy, but if I stumble upon a 32 frame then I’ll change to a flathead v8 and go full postwar style! Enviado desde mi iPad utilizando H.A.M.B.
Welcome to the Hamb Red, Just to be clear I was not at all trying to suggest you stray away from the essence of all out 'A' Assault...It's made it this far together and many made history without the infusion of The Deuce... Thanks for sharing this and love the Ambience of the Shop...Priceless...There are many interesting Shops and goings on here...Your Project and your Outlook is Golden...
Sweet roadster looks solid!!! Man that's one hell of a ''parts collection'' you have!!! Ill be following! Cheer
Too bad you had to settle for one of those common 32 shells rather than the proper year Model A shell.
I still have the stock model A grill, I’m still going back and forth between them hahah Enviado desde mi iPad utilizando H.A.M.B.
Yes the Ole A shells take a beating But Stand Tall against the competition @Red rods...I see where Stan's coming from...
Little progress today, I disassembled the axle to repair the bushings but I realize that it’s bent right in the middle so I will add that to the list of things to do haha. Also i reverse eye the main front leaf Enviado desde mi iPad utilizando H.A.M.B.
@Red rods I left an inspiration out... @Stan Back's Roadster the story and more at the links below... Stan correct me if I'm off the mark here... https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/his-story-of-stan-back-the-roadster.1012117/ https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum...genized-hotrods.1002926/page-69#post-12625386 Credit to Photographer, Owner
Thanks for the inspiration! This has to be the coolest picture I’ve ever saw! Enviado desde mi iPad utilizando H.A.M.B.
No Problem just spreading the Hotrod Gospel Red... A very incredible Hotrod indeed...still here today...it has had quite the journey most of it Very Fast...
Well, the car's still around, but it moved to Texas in November. It got a new, much younger owner who's going to be the next custodian. After 57 years, I let it go to a better place. Here's a shot from days gone by – when it was the purdiest during my custody . . . and another while it was searching for the course at Bonneville while on its one and only journey with Positraction . . .
Jim, Good to hear it found a good home, I hope you will still come to Speedweek ! The place won't be the same without you.
A little update! Today I assembled the front spring pack with 6 leafs total and reverse eye I also installed the model a wishbone to the 32 axle with the 1/4 inch spacers King pins is the next step to have the hole front suspension assembled Test fitting a set of juice brakes with the modified bolt pattern to accommodate the 32-34 spindle Final ride height of the car! Really like the way is turning out Enviado desde mi iPad utilizando H.A.M.B.
It lowered approximately 5 inches up front and 3,5 in the rear Enviado desde mi iPad utilizando H.A.M.B.
Hi Red, Could you put your location in your profile? I am sure others, like me, are curious. I am guessing somewhere in South America.
You are right! Haha I’m from Argentina. I’m going to update my location now Enviado desde mi iPad utilizando H.A.M.B.
those holes in the backing plates invite nasty brown wasps. and they hurt. your front springs second leaf is going to hit the reverse eye. not good. after that the leaves should be evenly spaced. As they are now they may bend at the large gap
Hi everyone! I haven’t got to much done on the roadster this days so I’m going to share some picture from “back in the day” that really inspired my build That setup drives me crazy! Haha Is that a 35 Ford grill? 29 roadster on 32 frame best combination ever 30/40s racing here in Argentina. I think those were the early days of “turismo de carretera” Any other pictures are more than welcome! Emiliano from Vintage Oliden Garage. H.A.M.B.
Well I can’t believe I was able to find some used rear panels for my roadster, I don’t know nothing about body work so this saves me a lot of work and hassle. I can’t wait to paint it all one color Before After Emiliano from Vintage Oliden Garage. H.A.M.B.
I'm curious as to why you call your Model A roadster an AR. What is the date code on the firewall and the chassis number? Early cars did not have reinforcing ribs in the rear wheel wells and did not have reinforcing ribs on the upper firewall.
