Art & Inspiration The iconic hot rod of all hot rods!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Lloyd's paint & glass, Jan 5, 2020.

  1. I had to look up Hot Rod in my Dictionary. { I have the only copy } lol. It didn't give any particular make of car. But it did say a Hot Rod has a light body with a modified mill. Usually striped of all parts not needed for speed. So this was my interpretation of a Hot Rod. Sorry, it's not Iconic though.:) Ron.... 130.jpg

Well, one thing's been proven... we sure know which are the good ones.

  4. Not because I have one, but my early exposure to my Dad's Hot Rod magazines, made me lean towards T buckets. These days I really like '26-'27 T roadsters...
I refuse to join the "what defines a Hot Rod debate!"

  7. It would seem I'm not smart enough to get my thoughts across, the more i read and see the post about "here we are beating the dead horse again", i realize i went about this wrong. I said that it seems to me that the majority think of the 32 as the iconic old Ford, and the 57 as the iconic old Chevrolet. So what does the masses believe is the iconic old Mopar? Or do you believe the most iconic car from Ford and Chevy are something else? And as far as throwing an orphan in there, is the Willys the most iconic old car? Hope this makes more sense. Sorry to start yet another popularity contest. As you were...

Getting an answer from the masses as to THE most iconic (fill in the blank) car would be like asking someone which of your kids do you like best.
Back to the on-going debate of "define what a hot rod is", it could take on many shapes, but speaking Mother Mopar one car that comes to mind is "Suddenly".
And like eating potato chips, one photo won't do it.

    Check it out.

The trifecta of hot rods is generally considered to be 32 Ford, 57 Chevy and 69 Camaro.

You know, for years I hated it when people called a Corvette a "sports car".
The term sports car conjures up thoughts of MG's, Triumphs, Healys, etc.
Nearly bush league compared to a Corvette.

I think "Hot Rodded Corvettes" would have been more appropriate. ;)

I'm not that fond of the "sports car" label on the Corvette either...but they sort of sealed their fate by competing in the '50s-'60s in "Sports Car" classes throughout the U.S, and Europe.:(

The 32 Ford is the iconic hot rod of all time. It may not be my or your preference but it is the one. Just like elected officials. You or me may not like them but they are what they are. A duck is a duck.

The way I see it, there's not one sole icon in hot rodding.

Hot rodding is one of the true (and last) American artforms. In my modest opinion, every vehicle model (or year, depending on how you see it) has an iconic hot rod (or two or three or more) that really stands out. These icons help define the tradition and era they belong to, as well as the "genre" of automotive history.

Trying to put one on top of another is impossible.

Again I think Plymouth hot rods definitely are pretty sweet.

I don't believe there is any one single iconic hot rod, but there plenty of them that have become icons.

This is like arguing about who the most beautiful woman ever is... To which there is no answer but Sophia Loren has gotta be up there... I personally can't choose between '32-34 Fords and '40 Fords for best hot rod material. My favorite Chevy is the '58 model, and the best mopar in my opinion is the '68 Charger.
