To check the trans fluid on a 50’ pontiac 2 speed hydramatic transmission do you unscrew the square freeze plug on top or the whole bolt it’s attracted to? Thanks
There should be a dip stick under the floor . Pull back the carpet and either left or right of the trans tunnel should be a plug or cover or something. Pop it of n bingo Short dip stick. That trans should also have a drain on the Torque converter . what your describing sounds like a band adjuster.
What he said ^^^^. There should be an access under the carpet on the passenger's side near the hump. There should be a short dipstick in there. If someone converted it to a later trans or pan, then it might be in the engine compartment against the firewall on the passenger's side like many later cars.
The “bolts” on that side of the trans are actually ‘adjusters’ with jamb nuts for the bands. Don’t monkey with them until you read up on how to adjust them in the manual. The big “plug” up near where the transmission case bolts to the bellhousing is access to the pressure regulator valve. Again, best not to mess with it until you read up on it.
