If you want to be realistic--- 301 cu in and 188HP from a 700 pound + engine sucks. You could do better, and cheaper, with a 318, 302 or 305.

But if you want a cool engine for an old style hot rod, you have one.

As often happens with obscure fifties engines, with little or no speed equipment available, I wonder if a Paxton supercharger would be the answer to more HP ?

You could use any kind of supercharger you want, and the engine will stand the gaffe. They used the same block, crankshaft and rods in blown fuel dragsters in the fifties.

A poly 301 can be upgraded to numerous ci's by understanding the crankshaft being used and increasing the bore . The 301 block is the same as the 318 block - it's just a different bore/stroke . Do your homework and you will find a very good torque engine that can rev relatively well too. And a 302 or a 305 can't produce the same torque as one of these engines without some form of rework either

There were 2 301 polys, one Chrysler based and one Plymouth based. The one in the pics is a Chrysler. It used the same block, crank, etc as a 331 hemi.

  6. I edited my original post, to push the blame on you guys

My son and I pulled another Polysphere out of our local junk yard.

    It's a 56 poly out of a Windsor, stamped WE56 so this one is a 331.

I've started soaking the pistons, only time, and a machine shop will tell if this new one is rebuildable.

    Worse case I have a bunch of spair parts IMG_20190427_154635_357.jpeg IMG_20190428_130535173.jpeg IMG_20190428_130546154.jpeg

  7. Funny thing, I just saw a like notification and I just got the piston free

It took a month of soaking with white vinegar, some hand sanding and a BFH
