It's a shame to see some of these cars and trucks just rotting away. Having said that, I don't think I can do another basket case/bring back from the grave/half rotting pile of agony. Time is too short now. I've got one more car left in me ('54 Ford Club Coupe) and I want to get it done. If I think I need another car, I'll just buy one already done.

  7. Most old yards are gone, removed because some might consider them environmental threats or eyesores. But some still exist.
I posted some photos on this thread a few years ago of a yard that is still working. I was there last in September 2019 to pull a few pieces. They were loading scrap & clearing out some iron. I drove by the place a month or so ago, it looks like not too much has been removed yet but that might be due to poor winter weather. I will go back next spring & see if I can still scrounge a few parts I need.
The ol' boys don't sell complete cars and I think they're pretty good at knowing "pickers" from restorers. And am pretty sure they charge accordingly.

  8. Last time I was at the yard, this old Jet was still sitting & rotting. Not sure if the connie kit was still attached, it looked more picked over than when I took this photo in 2016 or '17.

  12. This one was sitting and rotting over 20 years here in town until a fellow Hamber turned me onto to it...and because I’m a big dummy it’s no longer sitting and rotting as of this past Sunday

  13. Nice '63. You're no dummy. It's got the rare big back window. I'm surprised it's not a Custom Cab because of the window.
    What's under the hood?

  14. It’s a custom cab, has the handle emblems, bright grill and bumper, two tone interior and horn ring, etc. Has a 292 under the hood

  16. I had the same year, engine and color but with white roof. Mine was a "wrong box" fleetside short bed. It didn't have a chrome bumper but had "Custom Cab" scripts on the doors. Mine originally had a 3 speed OD but was swapped out for a regular one by the PO. I sold it in 1998. I have photos somewhere but I haven't been able to find them yet.

  17. Chris.....those are really rare - with that rap around back window.....always thought it was like a 1956 Ford big window cab. Great save !

  18. Wasn't this place still going somewhere in Cali about 25 yrs ago ? Seems there was talk of a guy that all the street rodders knew about but he had his a price. Down around LA ?

  19. I think it was long gone 25 years ago. I was there back then and I didn't see or know of any yard like that in the area.

  20. I'd be a lot more excited if it was a 56 big back window. But it's a neat truck, and actually pretty decent considering how it was stored the past couple decades

  21. I am not super familiar with 61-66, but have had them that have the custom cab script along the bottom of the door window openings. I am not sure what/why some trucks got the door handle emblems instead?

  22. You can buy a new cab section and window glass to turn a 56 into a big window.

  23. If you keep it for any amount of time you'll get to know it really well. Neat trucks and super easy to work on. There weren't too many changes from 61-63. 64-66 are different mechanically from the 61-63 and only some of the cab body parts are interchangeable.
You'll need to start a new thread of it's own when you start working on the truck. ;)

  26. I would bet that it is. I think I used to see their listings in Hemmings back in the 80's.

What was the name of the people who ran medicine now motors when they got shut down by the feds? Kinda thinking it's the 2 brothers, one of who screwed me over with a car I bought.
