My weird side likes those Ramblers and since my local old junkyard has a few maybe its time to look into one.

    Hey thanks for the info!
I was just curious about that sticker and hadn't had a chance to research it yet!
On a side note, I did find out that their were fewer than 2500 65 American 300s made with the flathead 6.
So it IS actually a pretty rare car!
Probably worth twice what I paid!
    Lol!

I also had a 61 rambler 2 door wagon that had the flathead 6 in it. I wish I would've kept it too.

When I saw the name and address of where the original owners were from I just about shit my pants! That car was owned by people that lived not more than 3 miles from where I grew up! WOW!!! Small World!!!

Sorry I didn’t see your earlier response. My comment about the rims was that it had very skinny tires on 15 inch rims. They were original because it had the factory hub caps. I sold it because that tire size would not be available anymore locally. If I had known that 14 inch rims could be substituted there were a lot of tire sized that would have fit. It’s called being young and dumb.

I've always loved Americans. I have the first (1958) and last (1969 Hurst SC/Rambler) with a few in between. I have the first car I ever had, a '66 American 220 bought in '70 for $650.

Ok, my bad, I thought I had a 300 but it turns out to be a 220 model.
So not quite as rare as I thought.
    Something like over 14000 made.
On a good note, we just got back from taking it to town, about 25 miles each way!
And she made it without breaking down!
Really need to figure out the carb situation. It was fine in town but, on the highway it kept falling on it's face unless I really feathered the throttle.

  12. That's cute! What is the bolt pattern on the wheels? I have a set of "Cragars" that have "Javelin" center caps. They are 14".

I'm not quite sure the size of the bolt pattern, but I do know they're 4 bolt.
I'll have to measure them and get back to you.

Good lookin car, really like them. Youll get a lot of double takes as people try to figure out what it is.
I had to pass on one a few years ago, just didnt have anywhere to put it. Had definite plans to "mess it up" with off brand late model drivetrain, a/c and daily drive it.

Surprised to hear only 4 bolt pattern. I have a 62 and 63 American. Both are 5 on 4.5". It's possible that changed on the later Americans though.

Ok guys, just to be clear......
    I am a idiot!
    I don't know why I thought they were a 4 bolt pattern ? I was totally wrong!
They are in fact, like most of you said, a 5 bolt, but I'm not sure what size.
Once again, I am a idiot!
    Carry on!

    Not an idiot.
Back years ago I remember people were amazed how the 61,2,3 "breadbox" Americans came with 15" wheels. Most, even the SC/Rambler had 14" (14×6, 4.5"spacing).

AMC used same as Ford Mopar. Jeep lug pattern. But they were pretty narrow wheels maybe 4.5/5.5 wide and not a very deep offset. If I remember the were 650 14 or 670 15 depending on drivetrain.

61-63 used 15" wheels to clear the steering knuckle/tie rod end. 64+ is different.

I had issues like that a few times; turns out it was a plugged fuel filter. Enough fuel came through on low demand, but couldn't keep up on highway.

No...keep it AMC. Why 390 Cad when you can go 390 Rambler?

    Yes.
Does yours have filter on bottom of fuel pump? Mine does. You can disconnect fuel line at carb, put line into a clear glass. Unhook ign. coil lead so you won't get spark, fill glass and look at it.
Mine needs a new gas tank. I can clean filter & carb but it doesn't last. I've pumped gas out of the tank and it's bad.

  29. I was referring to another type vehicle, filter was on the carb, another time inline. Gas would get pumped up, and was fairly clean, but volume wasn't there at highway speed.
