For a stock small block motor. How can this be done with a regular high capacity fuel pump running on the block. A regular factory mechanical fuel pump. You have these parts ready to go: Barrel valve 8 fuel lines going to injectors above intake ports of engine.Like Man-A-Fre does. A return line with a restriction. A 'spider' to route 8 fuel lines. Can this be done with a regular old fuel pump? On the block or Holley type red or blue. Why use a Enderle/Hillborn/Other race pump that 'follows' RPM of engine? If it for a stock type engine. No massive amounts of alcohol which you need more of. Would like to get past this road bump and move along with this.
So you want to run a machanical fuel injection Hilborn/Enderle with a regular fuel pump ? Hilborn/ Enderle has done this for real and know there product. Why dont you just run the right pump for your fuel injection?
I would say need to find out how much pressure the injectors need to work properly to find out if your pump can supply it.
Thank you for the responses 'So you want to run a machanical fuel injection Hilborn/Enderle with a regular fuel pump ?' Yes and no.Like a Enderle/Hillborn/Kinsler set up.Simple barrel valve/return line type. AND ditch the $800 new pump. 'Add a computer and it will work.' No computer. 'I would say need to find out how much pressure the injectors need to work properly to find out if your pump can supply it.' Let's say it is wide open throttle all the time.Maybe that is a lot of fuel. For a stock engine to give even two barrel performance.Which we would accept to just get going on this. Need to know if will work with a 'continuous' regular type fuel pump.On the block factory or electric. Not a fuel injection shop type pump. or
first, read up on how mechanical fuel injection works. Then hopefully you'll understand why the pump needs to be the correct one.
If you read Stu's article, you will see that as rpm increases, so does fuel flow. The engine block mounted pumps aren't even remotely capable of the pressure and flow requirements to be usable. You're going to get so many answers but the real answer is no period.
The flow isn't the issue, it's the pressure, and the fact that volume must be proportional to engine speed.
Thank you for the responses Let me ask this a different way. Using this: Air valve in place of two barrel on a manifold for a small block.@280 cubic inches. A simple throttle valve.Barrel type or some kind of valve worked with a lever handle. With or without return line. 1 How much pressure does it take to get a nozzle to atomize the spray at idle? 2 How much pressure to keep it running from idle to 4800 RPM? 3 How much volume and pressure at wide open throttle? That is for a stock engine. Forget it being a Enderle/Hillborn/Kinsler type. Just mechanical simple fuel injection/induction. Can 'up' it later.Just want running system to test ideas with.
A block mounted fuel pump pulses since its a diaphragm type driven by a lobe on the cam, the injectors require a constant steady pressure that increases as RPM does. You would also need about 35-55 psi for fuel atomization, fuel pressure cannot remain static through the RPM range, it needs more as engine speed increases. Your best bet would be an electric pump rated for electronic injection that could supply this pressure, but since your system is mechanical you would have to find a way to meter the fuel correctly for the various loads at X amount of RPM, and I don't even doubt that there's even more involved beyond that to get it to work. If you want it bad enough you'll just have to experiment on your own and see what happens, I feel that is will be an exercise in frustration though.
Thank you for the responses 'you want it bad enough you'll just have to experiment on your own and see what happens' Yes.We have a burning white heat desire to fuel inject/induct our little motors. Get busy time here.
Passing along this info as we run across it. Stock engine running on gasoline. Enderle 80A-0 new or used. You won't get burned buying one of those. It will run that stock engine. Believe it can be upgraded to a -1/2 and -1 with parts kit.Not sure. Enderle is best bet for support.Hillborn is out the window after Holley takeover. Kinsler is good deal also. They are sort of midwest oriented. Have fun!
