So I'm looking for tail lights and stands for my '36 slantback and im lost on em. It's one of those things where you didn't even realize there was a difference until you drag home a project and start getting into it. So.. which tail light stand is which and which model do they fit?? Thanks - Andrew
Those are not tail lights. Those are tail light STANDS. 35 and 36 had totally different fenders. The 35 had a concave shape back there, and 36 was convex. Not sure if the coupe/roadster stand was different than the sedan stand, but someone will probably have that info for you soon.
There were at least 3 different tail light stand lengths for 1935-1936 fords, coupe, sedan, convertible sedan. 1935 Ford tail light stands have bead around the mounting surface, 1936 tail light stands do not. it is more of a sharp edge.
Nice looking car. Curious to know about the rumble seat step pads on your taillight stalks. If they are touring sedan, a 4 door if I understand correctly, it seems it would not have needed the pads. Are your stands modified to add the pads? Ray
Actually the first and third are both 35 stands. Only the middle pair are 36. While the third picture looks similar to 36 , they actually are for a 35 sedan with a trunk Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Hi Ray, You are correct, I modified a drivers side to accommodate a threaded plate to accept rumble step. Being a drivers side it needed a little bit of reshaping plus a slightly modified gasket on the base where it meets the fender. In hind sight I could probably grafted the touring sedan long stalk on to a regular base. The long stalks are not to everyones taste, I may even change them someday but for the moment they are staying. I stole the idea of using these from Spence Murray's 36 roadster. Gordon.
