In my rudimentary knowledge of foreign cars, I believe that clever engineering was quite common in French automobile history. Which makes me wonder why they never received the popularity in the US that the English, Germans and Italians did. Or perhaps they didn't have the production capacity, or just weren't that interested in export?

Clever French engineering included a lock up converter of powdered iron that was magnetized to lock, as I recall. But after a while the particles got polished and tumbled into little balls, screwing up the elegant system.

They made pretty good cars in the 1890s.

  7. Clever engineering and ugly are two separate subjects.
Since this is an opinion thread, the Citroen is STILL ugly in my opinion...thats my story and I am sticking with it...:)

I feel bad for those who don't know the difference between good looking and Fugly. When it comes to selling something Fugly they find out the hard way. You'll own a Fugly or an undesireable make or body style for the rest of your life.

  10. This car always reminded me of those cutout cars on the back of a cereal box. (Still does.) You know, "insert Tab A into Slot B".
The thing about the French and their cars is, they rejected, out of hand, the well sorted out engineering and design of the rest of the world for purely cultural reasons, namely aloofness, contrariness, and a love for doing a function in 3 steps when it could be done in one.

    2CV?

The twin engine 4 wheel drive Citroen 2CV Sahara is an interesting little car.

Do they make a hop up kit for that?

I'm not posting a photo because I would have to save it to my computer first and I can't bring myself to do that.

Very well engineered local car and FUGLY. Nothing traditional at all.

Yuck, I’d call that a lot of things but well engineered wouldn’t be one of them.

A great example of someone who should have taken up a different hobby.

Actual twin steer part aka heavy truck geometry, is what I refer to not the build itself. It shouldn't have been approved in the first place as a hot rod when the original application was submitted to the powers to be!
