Technical Flathead engine number question?

    I recently picked up a new project...It has a flathead and I am trying to put a date to this engine...Any help on this code.. I can't seem to find it published 1953? Appears to be B S 3? Thanks in advance

  2. I think those numbers near the deck are all production related.
    I can’t speak for all blocks,,,but the ones on my 49 8CM , are on the rear above the bell housing area . Right rear .

    Check on Van Pelts site,,they have a ton of casting numbers there.

    There are no casting or stamped numbers that can positively identify when a flathead was built. Just general year periods. Only a very few of the later blocks got the serial number stamped on them by the local dealer to comply with local registration regulations.

    Give us a good overall pic of the engine, then some closeup pics of any casting numbers you find on the top of the bellhousing area of the block.

    I know this doesn't help any....Just some pics..This car was listed on the HAMB for sale,,, Currently doing a little work to it.,Wife had to have it! Much better car than the piece of crap I started with.

    It's an 8BA 49-53 from the picture.
     
  7. I agree with Aaron D. it is a 49-53. Where are you at in WV? I am in the Northern Panhandle, Marshall County.

    Usually it’s a letter-number-letter date code. All do not have it,
    But if it’s correct it would be February 10, 1953.
    But it doesn’t match the normal stamping methods.
